FAU Pitches State for $6M to Create "Institute for Science & Technology"

Florida Atlantic University has asked the state for $6 million to create the Institute for Science and Technology.

The Institute would work with Port St. Lucie based-Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies and the Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute as well as Jupiter-based Scripps Research Institute and Max Planck to leverage state and local government investments into the bio-tech partners to create additional research space.

The nonprofits work in areas such as finding cures for diseases and other life science initiatives.

"We feel that these initiatives are important for Florida and important for the economy," Alperin said. "We hope that other people see that as well."
