FAU revises student alcohol policy

That drunk fan who threw a bottle.. that would be Fledge. He wasn't aiming for the ref and he wasn't technically drunk. It was in OT and just got done POURING and it was the B.S. play where we blocked a FG and then the refs took 20 minutes to make the wrong call and gave the ball back to ULM. Fledge was pissed and he knows he did something stupid, he picked up a plastic bottle and chucked it on the field. He was throw out of the game by the police but he was no where close to hitting the ref, ref deserved it anyway

Wish I could have seen that. ;D.  When I first read this it kinda annoyed me, but in reality its not quite so bad.  I hope it is really just a publicity ploy though.  Three hours is good tailgating time if your just sitting there drinkin beers, but if you are setting up a big spread then no way.  When we go balls out we bring canopies, grills, games, and all kinds of random crap.  Figure it takes 30-45 minutes to set everything up and another 45 minutes to put away.  So in 3 hrs of tailgating, you get one hour (more or less) of actual tailgating.  The time limit is dumb, it was said earlier, but you can get annihilated in 30 minutes if you want to, time is not the cause.  When I went to Daytona in July we got there at 830AM and the race wasn't till 7:30 PM, that's tailgating.

Do we NEED four hours of tailgating, no, but I like to have that option.

Maybe that's the reason for the one hour discrepancy in tailgating policy and parking policy? You can park four hours early, then setup for an hour, but don't pop that top until exactly three hours before kickoff!! lol

Re: FAU revises student alcohol policy

Just a thought….when I went to the Michigan vs. Notre Dame game in Ann Arbor a few years back there were RV's there with people that had been tailgaiting since Wednesday…and idiot will find a way to be an idiot no matter how long a time period you give them, ask TeamBeer…he got chunked from a game last year for running over a handicapped kid.

Teambeer is the most knowledgeable FAU sports fan I know, way smarter than me.

Speaking as a youth and high school baseball umpire, let me just say that there is absolutely no excuse for throwing an object at a game official from the stands or anywhere else for that matter.  If you think there is, then I challenge you to take the field and give it your best shot.  I guarantee you'll have a new-found appreciation of what officials go through.  The pros just make it look easy.  That's how good they are.

Didn't mean to go off-topic, but I can't let that go.

I'm not saying its an easy job by any means but also the guy who threw the plastic water bottle on the field had NO INTENTIONS of hitting the ref.

Be that as it may, you said he "deserved it."  That's what I'm objecting to.  Given all the fan vs. ref incidents in recent years, although mostly at the youth level, I'm more than a little sensitive to that.  I know you didn't really mean it, but I just don't want people to think it's ok, that's all.

Re: FAU revises student alcohol policy

point taken. Of course I wouldn't wish a personal attack against a ref. I may tell him he sucks at his job but I don't wish harm against anyone. I know it's not easy for the guy (sometimes girl in the NBA) to do their job when no matter what call you make someone is going to hate you

Re: FAU revises student alcohol policy

Every year at Homecoming were there at 6am to cook a pig. They never say anything to us the parking staff is interested in the pig than giving us crap. The rest of the season I'm at the games around 10-11 am and never have problems. The only thing that sucks is I have to buy an additional parking pass each year for the tailgating to actually have some room.

Re: FAU revises student alcohol policy

It's funny you mention that Boozie. When the report first came out, the first people I thought of was your crew with the pig roast for Homecoming.

Again, I think this is a general rule to not only align with what many other schools have on the books (maybe not enforced), but to help keep people safe.

I'm sure your pig roast won't be bothered. What you may want to do is ask OWLALUMNI to talk with athletics to get y'all approved just incase Lockhart staff decides to kick you off of the property. But, asking for permission to cook the pig and tailgate early could also be bringing attention to it.

Just a thought.
