FAU to See 15% Tuition Hike...

FIU may want to up its student body (as does FAU) but I think we really need to look at raising requirements (which I assure you, we are). Who cares if we can get 10,000 more students if they are going to bring down the overall level of education.

I certainly understand that line of thinking as well.

We were getting a lot of Freshman coming in at the end of May wanting to come to FAU (deadline was May 1st) with just average scores. Most likely they got denied from where they wanted to go originally and were looking to FAU as a stepping stone.

What were the "average scores?"

Well unless they had a very strong GPA and high test scores, they were denied from FAU as well.

Excellent. We don't need more 2+2 students here.

Mid-range was 3.2-3.7, 1510-1710 SAT and 22-28 ACT

But we also have alot of 2+2 students. If you get your AA and come straight here then you are automatically in, if you don't have your AA then we require a 2.5. It was a 2.3 a couple years ago.

Oh, I meant 2+2 as two years FAU then two years at UF/FSU.

here is recent article about the need to increase revenue at Florida schools.

Reven-U: Funding Higher Education - Florida Trend

What is truly surprising is most of HS Grads are going to 'state colleges' formerly community colleges. The reason FAU and FIU are seeing spikes in their applications is UCF reaching the maximum UCF can handle.  Solid B students are now applying to UCF, FAU and FIU. FIU has the right mindset, accept all you but don't lower qualifications.  UF/FSU are actually raising their qualifications.

If you can take the growth the PECO funds are sure to follow; which means parking garages and new building will be funded.
