First Ph.D. grad of FAU's Harbor Branch stays, seeks cancer cure in ocean
Winder, 32, graduated from Florida Atlantic University’s Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute in Fort Pierce on Dec. 11 with a Ph.D. in chemistry. Hers is the first doctoral degree awarded.
She is staying on with the research institute as a graduate fellow in a project that looks for natural compounds that may one day cure cancer.
“Where some people are looking to plants, we are looking to marine organisms,” Winder said.
