And for the record, I don't own any guns and didn't have any when I was on campus. I am duder and I approved this message.

Re: Guns on campus
The moment we start looking at everyone as threats and make believe that we will be in an awesome gunfight and save all sorts of lives is when these kids will make mistakes, accidental shootings, or innocent victims. We criticize other Football Teams when their players carry around weapons and now we are thinking that our players and everyone else should be encouraged to carry on campus? I swear the 2nd Amendment has been bastardized by video games that glorify gun use when it should be a last resort.
I think everyone should be allowed to carry a stun gun on campus! If you mess up, all well, its only a temporary shock. ;D

How about no guns on campus, but you can pack heat at Lockhart? That way if Louisiana Monroe gets out of hand again I can lay down the entire Offensive Line while finishing my 20th beer of the afternoon. Better yet, they should sell handguns to students in the bookstore that way a student can defend themselves from being ripped off by murdering the guy selling them a $200 Astronomy book.
For night games, it should almost be mandatory to pack at Lockhart. ;D And when you buy that $200 book, it should come with one of those pool noodles, so you can beat the snot out of the authors.

I don't think that a 18-22 year old untrained college student could even grasp the implications of their actions. The response (if any) would be to probably spray the target and anything near it in a frenzied, panicked mode. Thinking, I saw them hold the gun sideways like this on TV and it looked cool. How would a kid handle knowing it was their rounds that killed the poor little coed. Talk of allowing guns to be carried on campus is nothing short of madness.
Agreed.
This is a terrible idea and it's never going to be accepted by the relevant administrative people. Never in a million years.
There is something called the U.S.Constitution, so it's not necessarily their choice.

Ok, then can I bring a live hand grenade into the classroom? And if not, why not? I'm asking seriously.

Seriously, do you not pay attention to what is going on with gun rights in the country today.

With all due respect…
I pay attention to what is going on with all of our rights. And yes, I believe we should have the right to own guns, and I believe we should be able to defend ourselves in our homes. I also believe there are limits. For example, I have a right (and even an expectation) not to get shot at in my college classroom by somebody with little to no firearms training, who is spraying bullets in the name of "self-defense." Or do you believe my fellow students and I are just "collateral damage" in the name of self-defense?
We have a law enforcement officer, who knows a little about firearms training and presumably has had to engage a human target at some point (i.e., not a deer), therefore also knowing something about adrenaline and a person's psychological state when he or she is in that situation, raising more than just a legitimate concern, which you casually (and, dare I say, smugly) dismissed in favor of – I guess – some old, tired, absolutist definition of the Second Amendment.
So if I have an absolute right to "keep and bear Arms" as guaranteed in the Second Amendment, do I have the right to carry a live hand grenade into a college classroom? And if not, why not?

You do have a right to bring a grenade to class, but it's not going to end well. I think it comes down to a common sense deal, which unfortunatly not many people have enough of. I would say that the majority of people in college who own guns have had training (maybe not professional) and know the responsibilities. I think as a whole, most gun owners are aware of their responsibility, however there are those who have guns just for the "cool" factor. Then there are those who have weapons with the intent to harm others, but as I said in a previous post, they're gonna do something stupid anyway. Obviously a college campus is not the best place for guns, especially at drunken parties, but you do have a right to own one. I always felt safe on campus and did not feel the need for a gun, but if there was one in the room it would have been locked up for sure.
As far as everyone concerned about untrained people firing into a crowd trying to be a hero, relax. Both florida and Texas are states with a lots of concealed weapons permits, and there are crimes in both states. When was the last time you heard of a shootout between a criminal and John Smith in the parking lot? It just doesn't happen. Besides, though this bill would never pass in reality anyway.
