two different components and accounts. Can't transfer funds from that account to athletics.

Well, if vending machines and Homecoming funds can pay for a disgruntled administrator's severance, anything is possible in FAU's accounting department.

Re: New Ad Agency

It is true that athletics has a very tight budget and not much is allocated towards marketing, yet it is VERY important for them to do just that.  In business the time to market yourself is when money is tight, which usually means business is down (slow) which leads the need to market yourself to increase business.
You don't spend money on marketing when things are up and business is booming, yet businesses do it all the time.  The fact is FAU athletics MUST find a way to market itself NOW and allocating X amount of money each year to do so.  Sure there can be creative ways of doing so that will not break the bank, but it is important that you do something.

Does this new company understand the market that is South Florida, probably not - this is a VERY tough market to break, but I do believe that it is a market that is beaming with a ton of potential, it just need to be realized.  I wish I had some answers to help crack the nut, but an effort must be made and it appears that FAU is doing something.  Sometimes it's a good idea to ask advise from an outside source to get a fresh view of something that you would otherwise overlook by being tied to a project.

Re: New Ad Agency

I agree Bytor and I say that because it seems the marketing for the athletic program has been slow, low, not very well organized, lack in the ability to promote events to maximise returns. You almost get the idea that o.k. we need to do something to make it look like we know what were doing and wait till the last minute to push. It doesn't cost a lot of money to make an appointment jump in your car a go talk to potential corporate investors. Hell half the people on this board are coming up with better ideas then most of what the athletic mareting department puts together. I believe they are to lacks, and have a very "routine" and passive approach, and maybe to comfortable in there position. Nothing unique, cheez they couldn't even come up with the shovel thing for the stadium, or the now talked about foam fingers. Something just isn't right ::)

IMHO this is to help with the marketing of FAU Athletics and to bail out the marketing depaertment for there lack of imagination.

Re: New Ad Agency

If the promotions and marketing people at FAU would read this board daily, they would have a much easier job.

I hope the new ad agency does more homework on FAU and its market the the company hired to present the stadium plan.

That plan constantly refers to the "Miami" market and area, giving only short thrift to Palm Beach County. It pays no attebntion to the fact that the Palm Beaches have no significant stadium or arena for a population of 1.5 million people!

The stadium plan people apparently think FAU is in greater Miami - an idea that is so far off the mark and destined to cause any related marketing effort to fail in target audience and need.

Re: New Ad Agency

Personally, If I was running the ad agency, I would let the people who know best do the work for me. What I mean by that is….Create a contest that, students, alumni, season ticket holders, ect. enter. The contest would be for whoever comes up with the best marketing/advertising idea to promote FAU Football/Basketball. The winner of the contest would win Two (2) Club Seat Season tickets. This would be about a $3,500.00 prize to the winner. However, it would be a drop in the bucket to the ad agency and they would get hundreds if not thousands of new fresh ideas.

Re: New Ad Agency

another good idea diehard but like Markey said maybe if the people in charge would pay more attention to the board they may look like genusis. Hopefully the new ad guys will do better it would be hard to do worse.

Re: New Ad Agency

I am sure they come here...If not, we have the wrong company. I am curious to know though, who is the person/company that came up with "FAU Your Home Town Team". Was that the new company or the old?

Re: New Ad Agency

I like the "it's Owl time" campaign a lot. It's the most visible we've ever been. I've seen displays in Publix, billboards, and ads on TV. The bottom line is that advertising only goes so far. Fan support must develop organically over time.
