Re: Other Sports Signings

I cover a lot of other sports (soccer, lacrosse and such), so I follow it.

Troy is doing very well, and had a ton of early signings today. It's even getting a few from South Florida, normally a Troy weak spot.

Florida Atlantic Women's Soccer Lands Five Top Prospects

Five of Florida's top prep players have signed national letters of intent to attend FAU

Feb. 12, 2008

BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer program has announced that five of Florida's top prep players have signed national letters of intent to attend FAU and play for the Owls in the fall of 2008. The recruiting class includes two players from the reigning Florida State Champion Real Salt Lake Florida U-18 club team. The young players complement an FAU program that has averaged 11 wins per season over the past three years, including qualifying for the NCAA College Cup Tournament in 2005.

"These five players will blend beautifully with our returning players, adding both quality and depth to our attack and defense," said Florida Atlantic head coach Brian Dooley. "They come from great programs and will contribute immediately to our success. Having been great students in high school, I expect them to excel as student-athletes. We are proud to have them as a part of our women's soccer program."

Meghan Brown (Davie, Florida/Cypress Bay HS) - Played for the Weston Fury Premier U-18 club team… forward and free kick specialist… expected to compete immediately for playing time in 2008 with FAU graduating its top-two leading scorers… possesses a powerful shot and has the proven ability to assist on goals with dangerous crosses from the wings… versatile and polished player.

Elaine Chaves (Lakeland, Florida/Lake Gibson HS) - Defender for the reigning Florida State Champion Real Salt Lake Florida U-18 club team… exceptional technical ability complements Florida Atlantic's possession oriented attack… also has the ability to join the offense by making frequent overlapping runs… hard tackler expected to compete immediately. … teammate of FAU signee Katie Kent on Real Salt Lake Florida U-18 squad.

Gabriela DeVries (Navarre, Florida/Navarre HS) - Played for the Pensacola Lady Wolves U-18 club program… defender with exceptional pace and endurance… strong runs into the attack should create more scoring opportunities for the forwards… also has the ability to play wide in the midfield… possesses great enthusiasm for the game… positive attitude will help her in the competition for immediate playing time.

Laine Ferring (Weston, Florida/American Heritage) - Skilled mid-fielder for the Plantation Eagles U-18 club program… has a knack of setting up the forwards for great scoring chances… her tactical awareness should make for creative play and precise passing… dribbling ability puts defenders under pressure… also coaches a youth team in her club.

Katie Kent (Safety Harbor, Florida/Countryside HS) - Forward on Real Salt Lake Florida U18 state championship team… expected to compete immediately for the starting forward position… quickness allows her in behind the defense and is a proven finisher… hard working mentality… pressures defenders to create scoring chances… teammate of FAU signee Elaine Chaves on Real Salt Lake Florida U-18 squad.
