POLL: New housing standards?
We had a fantastic opportunity to do just this and FAU botched it by giving it away to a developer. Now we have University Commons, which has almost nothing to do with FAU. It's absolutely unacceptable and I'm disappointed more people in the FAU administration aren't focusing on this issue
Doesn't FAU make a ton of money from those stores? I may be wrong, but I sort of remember seeing the figures once at like $2 million a year towards scholarships or something.
Teambeer is the most knowledgeable FAU sports fan I know, way smarter than me.

I want to open a restraunt/bar thing..maybe called it…The Owls Nest or something ;D that would be all about FAU and 20th st is where I'd put it.
I dig it. I'm not sure how many bars have to be in a certain area for people to consider it as a place to go on a weekend night. My guess is you get five good bars/clubs on 20th and you're in business. So far you've got Nakava and the Irishmen.
I always thought that fixer-upper house across the street from Addison Park would make a great beer garden place with a house party vibe. Kinda like Dada's in Delray? Fix up that house, hang up a bunch of college posters, get some cheap couches outside and hang up some red and blue Christmas lights.
Thing is - that property costs like half a mil. So that's out. At least until I win the lotto.

I believe it's a little less than that. I'm not sure where the money goes to - just another contribution into the general operating fund, I thought. Maybe I'm way off.
It's not about the money. When you look at the scope of FAU's operating budget, that $1-2M barely makes a dent. It was more important to create an FAU student-centric center. The effect of that would have been just as big as new dorms, a new Rec Center, etc.
Anyway, back to the original point: I posted this here because I wanted to suggest it to President Saunders but I wanted some feedback to ensure that I had support. Sometimes you get really involved in an idea without thinking it through realistically, which is especially important whenever money is involved. The beauty here is that this decision costs nothing to make and it's encouraging to see that so many people here were amenable to it.
I'll be writing her soon.
