Protests Over Layoffs of Tenured Faculty at Florida Atlantic

Faculty leaders at Florida Atlantic University are protesting a planned reorganization of the engineering college that will result in the layoffs of five tenured professors, The Palm Beach Post reported. The university says that there are educational and financial reasons to make the changes. But professors say that the reorganization is an excuse to get rid of tenured professors who would otherwise be protected from layoffs.

Re: Protests Over Layoffs of Tenured Faculty at Florida Atlantic

There's a lot of bad press going around about the relationship between FAU administration and its faculty. The protest, the hiring freeze, the denial of raises, faculty leaving for other schools, even the Davenport thing.

I wouldn't be surprised if good faculty would be staying away from us even if we were hiring. I remember (Dean of Student Affairs) Dr.Brown even being advised from his colleagues against coming here. Imagine us trying to lure Nobel laureates here. Forget about it.
