Renderings of new movie theater complex
==========================================
Living Room Theaters will open a state-of-the-art, digital movie complex with four screens and a cafe on the Boca Raton campus this fall.
The theater, part of a $19 million complex that also features classrooms and offices, would be used by film students during the day, then become a venue for the kind of independent and foreign films Living Room specializes in on nights and weekends. But, unlike at its Portland sibling, no alcohol will be served.
"In this region filled with malls and multiplexes, independent cinema, especially from other countries, is rare," Manjunath Pendakur, dean of FAU's Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, said in a news release announcing the move. "This unique partnership between the university and LRT will showcase such cinema and help build film culture in this region."

Did someone donate this thing to us because honestly i think this is a waste wow 19 million was just spent on a bunch of hippies to make indy movies that 95 percent of the schools population doesn't give two ****s about. This thing brings nothing back to the school unless one in a million chance any of them make anything worth watching most of these kids in this major will be figure painting on a side street somewhere.
These are the exact kinds of things that "real" universities do to NOT be called commuter schools. There is a purpose here for the university as well as the community. I think it's awesome.
I guess they could have put a Hooter's in there instead to appease the 95 percent of the schools population :o

This is an institution of higher learning, and contrary to your belief, film is now the most popular and well respected medium in the arts, it's the new literature…when Harvard has a class focused on the social commentary of "The Wire" from HBO, then I say it's a great move for FAU to improve their film program.

In the article published above, it mentions that no alcohol will be served there however I was told the opposite and it looked like the bar inside was ready, they had draft beer taps installed. Aside from the booze, the place is just awesome, a handful of 50 person theaters, large leather recliner like seats with small tables inbetween for drinks and food. I'm told there will be full food service inside as well as at the outdoor cafe attached to it. The opening week they'll be showing the classic, Psycho, and from what I hear there will be a healthy mix of current independent films along with classics (and student films). I think the place will be a huge success and with the industry push to turn south florida into a haven for film making, somthing like this will lend a ton of credibility to our school.
Boca will soon be crawling with "dirty hippies" :D

Had the pleasure of touring this facility the other night, it's slated to open its doors in just a few weeks…"freaking amazing" is how I would describe it.
