CBS12 did a follow-up story suggesting that the most recent BOT meeting that was canceled - the first in years - was done partially because several board members want Saunders out, though they didn't have a solid source to quote from.
Trustee Barbar denies it, saying it was just cancelled because they wanted to have a full budget meeting and they don't have all the info yet from the state legislature.
Maybe something, maybe nothing. This could get interesting.
Well as Owls football fans we should all be forever grateful to her for coming in and stepping up the process to get the stadium built. She committed the school to the project right away and without her there, it is still not built IMHO!

Was this suppose to be in red? When did she start at FAU? I thought here first day on the job was the end of May 2010, Wasn't the ground broken for the stadium started on October 15th of 2010, so in 5 months make that 4 give her a month to settle in, she single handedly got us a stadium? Get real, have you ever had to plan for a project, at time and phase they were just finishing up the design process. The only thing that wasn't shored up was the funding and she doesn't have a degree in finance.

She was a huge part of getting the stadium finished.

The student government putting up a mil helped a lot too and the money from the IVA deal was helpful as well.
She has not been perfect (who is?) but she does try to do good and be positive. The whole GEOGroup thing was not expected and blew up in our faces and unfortunately for her, she is the public face of FAU. I feel FAU needs to hire a PR firm to help guide us in the future especially as we get bigger.

Oh please, FAU trustees voted to approve the $44.6 million finance plan from Regions Bank on July 21, 2010. Mary Jane Saunders began serving as the President of FAU on June 7, 2010. The way the university system and FAU moves, that effort was in the works way before the month and a half she was on board. She needs to find a quiet, simple job at a community college somewhere…not impressed here-we deserve better. Unfortunately, I don't think she's going anywhere…2015 can't get here fast enough. Her five-year contract expires then.
WE (FAU) only had to borrow $44.6M becuse the school put in cash for the $70M project that was never raised buy the fundraising efforts over the years! Think, that is a $25.4M difference from the stadium cost tot he amount approved to be borrowed. Do you really think we actually raised $25.4M for the stadium? No, she took the initiative and talked to the right people to get that done in that short time. She did jump right in and support the stadium project immediately, yes she did!

Re: Saunders not worried about her job...
I swear some days I wake up and want to give up on this thing and retire and move to my ranch in Arizona. Then other days I wake up and realize I am a feisty owl and want to help this program succeed.
We wanted to fire Howard. We wanted to fire Pelini. We wanted to fire Jarvis. Now we want to fire MJ? McCormack–you better beat FIU next week!
Do we want to build a program or second guess everyone and fire everyone?
I mean, seriously. I guess second guessing everyone else takes the pressure off of ourselves to support the program. Time to change.
