I was informed late Tuesday by President Saunders of her decision to make a change in the leadership of the athletics department.

President Saunders said that the university would be conducting a national search to identify a new athletics director and requested that I serve in that role during the interim.

I look forward to leading the department as we search for the new director.

Does FAU do something like Nebraska did in 1997 with Tom Osborne and name Howard the interim AD?

Umm…did you see last year's football team??  I love Howard, but do you really want him leading the entire department at this point?

Besides, Dawson is already the interim AD.

I'm not saying he actually runs the department, he would just handle external affairs and be the face of the department in terms of conference expansion. Trust me it was just a thought, I was one of the biggest advocates against Howard before the start of last season.
