I understand exactly what he is trying to say – but this has got out of hand. FAU is now in a very difficult position, but I don't expect them to take any action. Did you know, that to get access to Mary Jane Saunder's office now you have to show your face on camera then get buzzed in?

I know for some soon to be graduates such as myself, I'm concerned with the image of the university. If I'm applying to jobs, I don't want my FAU degree to be associated with the "America's worst university."

I feel your pain man. As "Mr. FAU" at the company for which I work, this sure does create some water cooler fodder around the office. I've fought hard to go toe to toe with some of our Ivy Leaguers to show the merit of an education at FAU but we keep tripping over our own feet. I sure hope the moniker "America's Worst University" doesn't stick.

I hope we have enough proud students to kick up some dust on Twitter over this, we'll see…

Lastly, you have to imagine there are rumblings of a coup. How many more situations like this can MJ survive?

I know my opinion of MJ has changed over the last 3 months…would like to see her get some wins, but I just don't think she has it in her.

How about FAU hires a PR firm to handle lots of this crap AND rebuild or image and integrity with the community!

Because the current president doesn't have the will or moxy to do something like that.  It's easier to hide in her mansion and hope it all goes away while looking for the next big donation check.  We should be accustomed to the university cowering in the corner, EVERY bad PR incident they have just sat back sheepishly, why would that change now?

Wow! Thank you…I couldn't have said this any better. She has handled all these incidents so poorly, she's made it worse. Look, we are not a typical established university. Everything about FAU is in a growth mode. Building everywhere and our student body grows every term. This is a very pivotal time for us…we need leadership! I'm not impressed with her abilities, based on how she has handled all this. I vote: no confidence.

Agreed. I'm going to be very interested to see what comes up in her next review. If the BOT gives her high marks and a raise (like they always do), we'll know how out of touch they are and how screwed we are.

From some things I've heard, the BOT is quite concerned and most certainly not out of touch.  Regarding a PR firm, FAU has retained a PR consultant now to better handle these situations.  I think it's too little too late for MJ.

how often does the board of trustees meet

I've been wondering lately how/if Saunders survives the last 6 months and I think in the end she won't. Some of what has happened is being slightly overblown and some of it is out of her control, but the response from her and the university has been so incredibly poor. You've got to try and control the message, especially these days with Twitter and 24 hour news channels, and they are doing an awful job at it. In fact, outside of this new hashtag I can't recall a single way FAU has done anything to try and swing this back their way. The response to these situations under Brogran would have been handled so much better and more professionally. You either need to apologize and promise to do better or fight agressively to get your message out there but you cannot do neither. FAU and Saunders have done neither.
