2016 FAU Softball Schedule & Results

The softball team split a doubleheader with Louisiana Tech (19-10, 1-4) on Saturday. The Owls won the first game 6-0, but dropped the nightcap 5-2.

Kylee Hanson went the distance in the game one shutout, while allowing just a hit en route to her 14th win of the year. Melissa Martinez was 2-for-3 with two RBI at the plate, and also scored a run.

Christina Martinez (2-for-3) scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth to pull FAU within 3-2. However, the Lady Techsters scored two runs in the top of the seventh to go back up by three.

Florida Atlantic (29-7, 6-2) was retired in order in the seventh to end the game.

The teams will meet for a series deciding tilt tomorrow at 12:00 PM.

The no. 23 Florida Atlantic University softball team outlasted a tenacious Louisiana Tech squad 2-1 in eight innings on Sunday. The Owls are now 30-7 overall and 7-2 in Conference USA play this season.

Kylee Hanson threw a complete game one-hitter to pick up her 15th win of the season, and Emily Lochten had two hits and scored the game winning run.

The score remained tied until the bottom of the eighth, when FAU loaded the bases. A Lady Techster error at shortstop allowing Lochten to cross the plate for the deciding score.

The Owls next travel to Miami for a three-game series against rival FIU.

FAU Softball (32-7, 9-2) took their doubleheader from FIU on Saturday by final scores of 4-1 and 3-2.

Tatum Buckley went 2-for-4 with two RBI in game one and Kylee Hanson (16-3) allowed just three hits in the circle.

Amanda Wilson (9-4) earned the win in game two with Hanson getting the save. Hanson now has a career mark of six saves, placing her third on the all-time record list.

Carnesha Thompson was 2-for-4 with an RBI at the plate.

The teams will meet again Sunday at 1:00 PM for the series finale.

The Owls used a big sixth inning to beat rival FIU 4-0 on Sunday. FAU completed a regular season sweep of the Panthers with the win.

The game was scoreless in the top of the sixth inning when Carnesha Thompson and Emily Lochten both drew one-out walks. Melissa Martinez (3-for-3, RBI) doubled to center to score both runners before scoring on a Buckley fielder’s choice. Later in the inning, Samantha Lageyre scored when Alex Miller put down a successful squeeze bunt.

Florida Atlantic (33-7, 10-2) will next host Marshall for a three game Conference USA series which begins Saturday, April 16th at  4:00 PM. Game three on Sunday will air on ASN at 1:00 PM.

At this stage of the season, the team will look to continue it's best mark since 2002.

For the fifth time this season, Florida Atlantic University junior Kylee Hanson has been named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week. It is the eighth time in her career that she has won the award.

College Sports Madness has them at #24 in today's poll. The ASA/USA Softball poll comes out tomorrow. Last week, while the ladies were ranked #1 in our hearts, they did receive votes in that poll. Hopefully the poll will have them ranked tomorrow.

The Owls rattled off their seventh shortened contest today, taking two games from Marshall (22-22, 6-8) at FAU Softball Stadium.

The final scores were 9-1 in six innings, and 8-0 in five innings.

Florida Atlantic (35-7, 12-2) racked up 11 hits in game one with Carnesha Thompson and Emily Lochten each posting three RBI. Emily Lochten hit her 10th homerun of the season and became the first Owl to hit the double digits since 2002.

Tatum Buckley and Madisyn Palmer each had two RBI in game two.

Kylee Hanson and Amanda Wilson each allowed only three hits from the circle, tossing a complete game a piece.

“We started to hit the ball better last weekend against FIU and we continued that tonight", said Head Coach Joan Joyce. "The girls have come in very focused. That’s what we need to do for the rest of the year.”

FAU will go for the sweep tomorrow at 1:00 PM before a live television audience on ASN.

Three home runs helped the no. 24 Florida Atlantic University softball team to a 5-0 win over Marshall on Sunday. The Owls outscored the Herd 22-1 for the weekend. FAU is now 36-7 overall and 13-2 in Conference USA play this season.

Kylee Hanson recorded her 500th career strikeout in the victory. Melissa Martinez went 2-for-3 with a RBI and two runs scored, including her fourth homer of the year, and Emily Lochten hit her 11th home run of the season.

The Owls will next host Florida Gulf Coast for a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 20.
