Boilermakers Sweep Owls




FAU was swept in a double-header by Purdue on Monday night.

The Owls fell behind in the first inning of game one on a two-run homer by Katie Mitchell. Purdue would then add to the lead in the third inning, scoring another run.

FAU scored two runs in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Brittany Walker and a RBI base by Becky Brandies.  But, they were unable to score the tying run and lost 3-2.

Florida Atlantic trailed in game two when base hits by Rose Gressley and Cari Curfman pulled FAU to within a run, down 3-2.

The Owls had runners on second an third with just one out in the seventh inning, but lined into a double play.

Purdue, aided by two FAU errors, scored a run in the top of the eighth.

Boilermaker starter Suzie Rzegocki, who reentered the game in the seventh inning, was able to retire the side in order to complete the sweep.

The Owls lost game two 4-3.

FAU enters Sun Belt play on Saturday when they face North Texas in a doubleheader that starts at 6 p.m.
