FAU Softball Drops 2-1 Decision to Chattanooga
The Owls fall to 0-3 on the season and will conclude action in the Elite Tournament with a match up against the nationally-ranked University of Georgia later this afternoon. Chattanooga improved to 1-2 on the season.
FAU grabbed the early advantage when junior Kerri Croney singled up the middle to drive home senior Jessica Myers from the second base. The run gave the Owls a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Chattanooga answered in the bottom of the second inning with a leadoff home run by Brittany Eason to straight away center field.
The Mocs would take a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning on a base hit by Tiffany Baker through the left side of the infield that scored Kristin Holloway.
Senior Amber Barton suffered the loss in the circle to drop to 0-1 on the season. She allowed two earned runs and recorded five strikeouts in the complete game effort.
Ambar Jones, Croney, Walker and Myers paced FAU’s offensive attack by recording a base hit in the losing effort.

Softball loses to No. 7 Georgia
The Florida Atlantic University softball team dropped a 5-1 decision to the seventh-ranked University of Georgia to wrap up play in the Elite Invitational on Sunday afternoon at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla.
The Owls fall to 0-4 on the season, including three losses to top 10 ranked teams. FAU will return to the field on Friday, February 19 when it hosts a tournament against the University of Kentucky . Georgia improves to 3-1 on the season.
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early advantage by pushing a run across in the first inning as Brianna Hesson grounded out to shortstop to plate Taylor Schlopy.
Georgia would add two more runs in the fourth and fifth innings to break the game open. Amberlie Saxton’s solo home run in the third inning broke the game open that put the Bulldogs ahead 3-0.
FAU got in the run column in the top of the seventh inning on a base hit by freshman Taylor Fawbush to right field. The throw into second base sailed high which allowed senior Blair Bodenmiller to take the extra base. Fawbush tied for team-high honors by recording two hits in the contest.
Senior Jessica Myers also had a multiple hit performance and reached base three times. The Boynton Beach , Fla. native also had a pair of stolen bases.
Freshman Kirstin Austin and senior Amber Barton each recorded a base hit. Fawbush recorded seven strikeouts in the circle in her first career start.
