FAU Softball Signs Eight

Florida Atlantic University Head Softball Coach Joan Joyce has announced the signing of eight student-athletes to National Letters of Intent.

The signing class includes six high school seniors and a pair of junior college transfers, all of whom will join the Owls in Fall of 2011.

Alexa Ballard (Kissimmee, FL/Osceola HS) is a two-time all-state selection who has hit over .550 in each of the last two seasons for the Warriors. She is an honor student and will be a sophomore academically when she arrives on campus. Samantha Messer is a pitcher/infielder from Sarasota, FL (Sarasota HS) who won a U-16 Championship with her travel team, the Sarasota Quicksilver.  Messer is also a two-year starter on the SHS volleyball team.

Alison Milam is a senior from Gulf Breeze, FL who plays primarily catcher at Gulf Breeze High School, but can play all over the field. Milam has won a national championship with the Mizuno Gold. She was named All-State third team as a sophomore and Pensacola News-Journal Player of the Year as a junior.

Palm Beach Gardens High School teammates Laura Mann and Lindsey Shell will play together once again in college. Mann is a three-time all-conference selection who has played all over the infield in her time as a Gator.  Mann helped the Gators to a 6A state title as a junior. Shell is also a three-time all-conference selection who was named one of the best softball players in the state of Colorado prior to transferring to Palm Beach Gardens.

Paige Pender (Orlando, FL\Boone HS) and twin sisters Colena and Colesa Lazar (Dade City, FL/Santa Fe College) round out the class.

“This is a very well-rounded, very athletic class and we expect all of them to compete for playing time right away,” said Coach Joyce.
