Softball Completes Sweep of Middle Tennessee
A perfect day at the plate by senior shortstop Blair Bodenmiller helped the Florida Atlantic softball team to a 4-1 win over Middle Tennessee on Sunday.
Bodenmiller’s 4-for-4 day began with a leadoff single in the first, followed by a stolen base, before she scored on a MTSU throwing error to give FAU a 1-0 lead. Bodenmiller’s second base hit of the day started an Owl rally that had the bases loaded with just one out, but and fielder’s choice and grounder to short ended the inning without a run scoring.
The Blue Raiders tied the game in the fifth on an RBI infield single by Jessi Couch. That run would have put MTSU ahead, but Bodenmiller relayed a throw from Jessica Myers to Kerri Croney to cut down the runner at the plate. Bodenmiller led off the bottom of the fifth with a double to left, then scored on Croney’s two-run homerun to left that once again put FAU ahead. Amber Barton added an RBI double to make the score 4-1 in favor of the Owls.
Barton pitched 3.1 perfect innings on her way to her first win in nearly two months. Taylor Fawbush pitched a perfect seventh for her first career save.
The Owls will host rival FIU on Friday, May 7 at 6 p.m. in a single game. It will also be the final home game for FAU’s six member senior class, who will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
