Softball: Strong Pitching Puts FAU Past Blue Raiders
A pair of strong pitching performances propelled Florida Atlantic (25-23, 10-9) to a doubleheader sweep over Middle Tennessee (19-27, 5-16) on Saturday night 2-0, and 2-0.
Game one was a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth until a Blue Raider fielding error allowed Brittany Walker to score.
The Owls added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on a Joshlyn Martinez groundout that drove in Kimberly Petrovich.
Kathryn Stauffer pitched six scoreless innings for her eighth win of the year with Rose Gressley going seventh to pick up her second save.
FAU took a 2-0 1st inning lead in the second game that would go the distance when Amber Barton scored on an RBI single by Gressley, and Ambar Jones scored on a wild pitch.
Taylor Fawbush pitched a three-hit shutout for her ninth win of the season.
The Blue Raiders managed just seven hits between both games.
The Owls will look to sweep the series on Sunday at noon.
