Softball Sweeps In Day One of Miken Inivitational Tournament
The FAU softball team won both of its games on Day One of the Miken Inivitational on Friday.
In the first game, the Owls (4-7) beat Loyola-Chicago 1-0. The game’s only run came in the bottom of the sixth inning when Croney smacked a leadoff triple, then collaborated with Blair Bodenmiller on a successful squeeze play attempt. Rose Gressley threw a complete game shutout for her first win of the season.
FAU defeated Providence 2-0 in the nightcap. Tajaniece Goudeau drove in Kimberly Petrovich in the fifth inning to put the Owls ahead 1-0. Joshlyn Martinez led off the bottom of the sixth with a double and later scored on a Friar fielding error. Kathryn Stauffer scattered five hits for the shutout victory.
The Owls continue action in the Miken Invitational on Saturday when they play Loyola-Chicago in a rematch. Game time has been changed and will now be played at 2 p.m.
