Hartwick College (3-4-2, 1-0) scored a pair of goals in each period tonight en route to a 4-1 defeat over FAU men's soccer in the MAC opener for both teams in Oneonta, NY.
With the Owls (5-4-1, 0-1) offense finally mustered up a somewhat even shot attempt performance (13-19), they proved inefficient, while the defense couldn't keep the Hawks from capitalizing on theirs.
Jefferson Dias (photo) accounted for FAU's lone score late in the match at the 88:00 minute mark off an assist from Darnell King, who returned to action after having been sidelined the past two matches.
The Hawks held a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks on the night.
The Owls next travel to take on Bowling Green this Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

After a scoreless first frame, the Broncos assumed a 1-0 lead just over 10 minutes into the second half.
Florida Atlantic's (5-5-2, 0-2-1) Michael Dunbar connected on a header, and his first score of the year, shortly thereafter to notch matters up.
WMU lead the Owls 20-11 in shot attempts, with Andre McCreath, Ramin Rahemi, Deniz Bozkurt and Dunbar tallying two shots a piece for FAU.
Goalie Jeremy Crumpton was solid in the net making 10 saves.
The Owls will have an extended period away from the field before returning to action in a road match against Northern Illinois on October 23rd. Match time is 1:00 p.m.

Re: 2011 FAU Men's Soccer Schedule
Unfortunately, the Huskies (10-4-0, 2-2) were able to cash in on one of them, as James Stevenson took advantage of a free kick at the 40th minute mark to score what would be the only goal and a 1-0 loss for Florida Atlantic.
FAU only managed just one shot in the first period, but was able to outpace NIU 8-5 in the second.
Florida Atlantic (5-6-2, 0-3-1), who is still in search their first MAC victory on the season, was led by Darnell King, Martin Nesic, and Ramin Rahemi, who each posted two shots.
The team will return to the pitch at FAU Soccer Stadium on Saturday, October 29th at 7:00 p.m. to take on Buffalo in the first of a three game home stand to conclude the regular season.

Re: 2011 FAU Men's Soccer Schedule
Weather conditions made matters tough on both sides offensively with heavy showers passing through the area at times, but the Bulls took advantage of their attempts while enjoying a slim 7-5 overall margin.
Maksym Kowal's shot to the right post netted Buffalo's first score in the 14th minute. That would be followed by Tony Smith's ball to the same locale during the 51st minute.
The Owls led in corner kicks 6-4 for the contest, but could not cash in on any.
Denis Bozkurt posted a team high two shots for Florida Atlantic (5-7-2, 0-4-1), who was eliminated from MAC Tournament contention with the loss.
FAU will wrap up the 2011 season at home on Sunday, November 6th against Akron at 2:00 p.m.

Re: 2011 FAU Men's Soccer Schedule
The Zips doubled up the Owls (5-8-2, 0-5-1) on shot attempts 14-7, but were efficient with nine of those being on target to just one for FAU.
Luke Holmes accounted for Akron's first goal to the right side of the net at the 38th minute. Darron Mattocks finished a dribbling set up ball with under 30:00 remaining in the contest to give the Zips (13-3-3, 6-0-0) their second score.
Offensive leader Darnell King, who played his last game for Florida Atlantic, paced FAU with two shots.
Fellow seniors Andre McCreath, Karol Chorak, Sky Cutler, and Tyler McNabb join King in the Owls' departing senior class.
Despite the loss, goalie Jeremy Crumpton was effective in the net with seven saves on the afternoon.
