2011 FAU Volleyball Schedule

In what has become a familiar theme as of late, Florida Atlantic (3-17, 0-8) fell to Arkansas-Little Rock in straight sets (19-25, 19-25, 24-26) on Friday night at FAU Arena.

The team continues to battle well at times, but just can't seem to string together a run when it is needed the most.

The Owls never led in set one after falling behind 4-1, but did come close on a number of occasions to tying.

After falling behind 16-10 in the second set, FAU would pull to within just two late before the Trojans used a 5-1 run to end the frame.

Set three would be an exciting seesaw battle, with the Owls enjoying a three point advantage late at 21-19, only to see the exact same result as UALR (9-14, 4-5) posted their second straight 5-1 set ending run.

Darija Sataric and Chandler Hatton each had seven kills in the loss for Florida Atlantic, who will look to end their current eight match skid Sunday at 1:00 p.m. against Arkansas State at FAU Arena.

Re: 2011 FAU Volleyball Schedule

The Owls were swept by Arkansas State today at FAU Arena.  FAU notched just a 45% kill percentage, while the Redwolves fared much better at 69%.

Florida Atlantic (3-18, 0-9) never led in the first, as ASU applied a slow and steady offensive pace to pull away to 25-17 victory.

Down 15-13 in the second set, ASU netted a 10-2 run over the Owls to polish off a 25-15 win.

In the last frame of the day, Florida Atlantic would trail early 6-1, but made a charge mid way through getting within just a point at 13-14. However, the Red Wolves (17-7, 8-2) tightened up defensively therafter to secure the match and set three 25-16.

Thacilli Pereira had a team high eight kills and six digs on the day for the Owls who next face FIU in Miami on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Re: 2011 FAU Volleyball Schedule

Southern rival Florida International (14-7, 6-4 SBC) completed a regular season sweep of visiting Florida Atlantic on Wednesday night at U.S. Century Bank Arena.

The Owls posted just a 6.6% attack percentage to that of 29.9% for the Panthers.

FIU raced out of the gate to a 19-5 advantage in the first set before winning it 25-9 in their largest margin of victory on the year.

Playing much better in the second frame, FAU would tie the score at 17-17 and eventually trail by just two points, before Sabrina Gonzalez connected on one of her match-high 15 kills to put it away 25-22 for the home team.

The final set saw the Owls (3-19, 0-10 SBC) within striking distance at 20-14 until Florida International took the contest with a 25-16 win behind a 5-2 match ending run.

Darija Sataric was the leader of FAU's offense with eight kills.

Hopeful for their first conference victory, the Owls will take on South Alabama on Friday at 6:30 p.m. in the opener of a three match home stand at FAU Arena.

Re: 2011 FAU Volleyball Schedule

The Florida Atlantic volleyball team posted a reasonably comparable attack percentage against a Sun Belt opponent for the first time in a while on Friday night.

And although the set scores almost mirrored one another, in the end it would be inconsistency late that played part in South Alabama (8-14, 3-7) completing a three set sweep over the Owls on "Dig Pink" night at FAU Arena.

With only six points or less remaining, FAU was down just a single digit in each frame on the night. However, they saw a win continue to remain elusive by failing to counter down the line while allowing closing runs by the Jaguars each time.

The first set was tied midway through, with the Owls eventually down just one at 21-20 before falling 25-20.

Set two would almost be a carbon copy at 12-12, with the home team trailing 21-20 prior to a 25-21 defeat.

The final set of the match saw Florida Atlantic (3-20, 0-11) notch their largest lead margin at 16-13, but a 12-4 run by USA put the finishing touches on a 25-20 win for the Jaguars.

Georgia Robinson paced the Owls with nine kills, and Cintia Nightingale pitched in 10 digs defensively.

FAU returns to the floor against Troy tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.

Re: 2011 FAU Volleyball Schedule

After winning the first two sets, the Owls lost a 3-2 heart breaker to Troy (26-24, 25-18, 19-25, 13-25, 11-15) at FAU Arena on Saturday afternoon. It was the first time in 10 tries that Florida Atlantic was not swept.

Although falling behind in set one 9-4, the Owls would battle back to pull out a slim win. They would not trail in the second frame of the day, and things were looking good for a victory.

However, familiar ways then returned with Troy leading by a single point in the third at 19-18 before securing a 6-1 closing run to get on the board. The Trojans next rattled off a 12 point rally in the fourth to lead 23-9 before knotting the match at two games a piece.

The fifth and final set, which is played to 15 points, would be back and forth with an eventual 11-11 tie. But once again a closing run was the difference maker, with Troy pulling away thereafter to a 15-11 win and the match.

FAU had three players with double-digit kills in that of Darija Sataric (16), Alessia Pizzocheri (10), and Chandler Hatton (10).

Cintia Nightingale led all players defensively with a match-high 27 digs for Florida Atlantic, who drops to 3-21 overall and 0-12 in Sun Belt play.

Atlantic Sun foe Florida Gulf Coast will next visit FAU Arena to take on the Owls this Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Re: 2011 FAU Volleyball Schedule

Florida Gulf Coast took advantage of a 61% side out performance to defeat the Owls 3-0 on Tuesday night at FAU Arena.

FAU would lead the first set at 21-20 before a five point run by the Eagles finished the action 25-21.

After an 11-8 favorable margin in set two FGCU (14-10) took control, pulling away for a 25-13 win.

The final set, which was nip and tuck until a 15-15 tie, saw the visitors seal the match with a 25-19 win behind a 10-4 point spree.

Jelena Simic and Jessica Barnes and each posted double figures in kills for the Eagles with 12 and 11 respectively.

Georgia Robinson paced Florida Atlantic (3-22) with a team high 11 kills and 58.8% attack percentage.

The Owls will make their way through Louisiana next weekend with two road matches, first taking on Louisiana-Lafayette Friday at 8:00 p.m.

Re: 2011 FAU Volleyball Schedule

Florida Atlantic’s inability to finish continued to pay undesired dividends as Louisiana-Lafayette completed a 3-0 sweep over the Owls on Friday night at Earl K. Long Gym.

The Rajin' Cajuns outhit the visiting Owls 20.9% to 6.9% for the match.

FAU (3-23, 0-13) succumbed set one 25-20 after a truly back and forth affair that was knotted at 18-18 before ULL caught stride late.

Set two saw the Owls out to a 5-1 advantage until a 7-3 run by the Cajuns pulled matters even at 8-8. However they regained composure to lead once again until another critical momentum shift occurred with the frame tied at 19-19 and Louisiana-Lafayette rallying for a 25-23 win down the stretch.

The third set would be no different as the Cajuns (11-16, 3-8) pulled away for a 25-20 victory after a 17-17 deadlock past the midpoint.

Lesley Mirarchi had a match-high 18 kills for ULL while Thacilli Pereira paced FAU with eight.

The team will next face Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday 5:00 p.m.

Re: 2011 FAU Volleyball Schedule

Georgia Robinson had 10 kills for Florida Atlantic on Saturday in a 3-1 loss to Louisiana-Monroe.

The Owls (3-24, 0-14) had trouble keeping up with the Warhawks' offensive, which netted a 36.7% attack percentage for the match.

After dropping the first two sets 25-13 and 25-9, things looked bleak for FAU. But a 25-18 set three victory by the Owls brought the match back to within reach.

Falling behind in the fourth and final set 14-7, Florida Atlantic would battle back to within just a single digit at 21-22 before ULM (10-14, 4-10) scored three of the last four remaining points to put the match away with a 25-22 win.

Cintia Nightingale had a team high 19 digs defensively for FAU.

The Owls will finish out the 2011 season with a road swing through Alabama next weekend. First up will be Troy on Friday night at 6:00 p.m.

FAU closed the 2011 season with a loss to Sun Belt foe South Alabama in four sets (25-22, 21-25, 25-15, 25-16) on Sunday.

Set one would remain close until the end with Florida Atlantic trailing 23-22. They would maintain control of set two past the mid point before winning the frame.

Momentum shifted in the final two sets, with the Jaguars assuming the lead for good after battles early on.

Sara Stoll led FAU with 13 kills and Kristen Norfleet added a career high eight.
