Men's Soccer: Owls Storm Back To Upend UNF in Overtime
The Florida Atlantic men’s soccer team erased a 2-0 second half deficit to defeat North Florida 3-2 in overtime on Sunday afternoon in Jacksonville.
Rocco Pecora scored the game-winning goal for FAU eight minute into overtime off an assist from Darnell King. The assist is King’s second of the season as he maintains his team lead in points with six. Pecora’s goal was his first of the season.
After trailing at 2-0 at halftime, the Owls (4-2-2) mounted a second half charge led by Sean Hart. The Toronto Canada native scored his first two goals of the season 16 minutes apart in the second half. The first tally for Hart came off a header after Karol Chorak sent a perfectly placed corner kick into the box. The goal cut North Florida’s lead to 2-1 in the 72nd minute. The tying goal for Hart came in the waning moments of the game in the 88th minute off a deflection to beat the Ospreys’ goalkeeper Jullian Beau. Beau made four saves for North Florida and freshman Ciro Martinez made three in net for the Owls.
Florida Atlantic will be back in action on Saturday night afternoon at 7 p.m. when the top-ranked Akron Zips visit FAU Soccer Stadium for the Owls’ MAC opener.
