Men's Soccer: Owls Extend Streak to Three Games in Win Over UNF

The Florida Atlantic University men’s soccer team extended their unbeaten streak to three on Wednesday afternoon with a 2-1 win over North Florida at the FAU Soccer Stadium.  The Owls have not lost a decision since Sept. 6 against UCF.

“It was important to get that first goal and take the early lead,” said head coach Kos Donev.  “It helped us throughout the rest of the match to stay on point.”

Redshirt freshman Benny Barshai gave the Owls (2-2-1) the early 1-0 lead after he buried a pass from teammate Darnell King past keeper Tyler Willets in the 17th minute.

The Ospreys (1-4-0) tied the game in the 31st minute off a corner kick from Calin Lowe.  Ricky Lawrence picked up his team-leading second goal of the season and headed one past keeper Jeremy Crumpton to level the game at 1-1.

Crumpton saw his first action in net since Sept. 6 and recorded two saves in the match.

Andre McCreath tallied his first goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 50th minute to give FAU the lead once again at 2-1.  Darnell King drew the foul after he was pulled down streaking towards goal to force the penalty kick.

In the second half, FAU had several opportunities to pull away late and outshot the Ospreys 8-2 in the final period and 17-6 for the match.  The Owls aggressive and relentless offensive attack also forced UNF to commit 12 fouls in the match.

FAU will continue their non-conference schedule this Friday when they travel to DeLand to take on Stetson.  The conference schedule begins next weekend with a road trip to Akron and Western Michigan.
