Swimming: Sun Belt Conference Championship Day 2 Results

On the second day of competition at the Sun Belt Conference (SBC) Championships in Nashville, Tennessee, the Florida Atlantic University swim and dive team set numerous seasonal bests, captured one individual conference title and set another school record.

Senior Lauren Harvath won the three-meter dive by posting a score of 253.25, winning by just .25 over the runner-up. It was Harvath’s first conference crown for her record-setting career. Stase Michota took eight seconds off her seasonal best 500 yard freestyle, finishing 12th with a time of 5:01.04. Melissa Miller also had a good outing in the 500 yard freestyle, taking six seconds off her seasonal best. Senior Lindsey Alexander, who helped set a school record yesterday in the 200 yard medley relay, finished fourth in the 200 yard IM, stopping the clock with a seasonal best 2:04.30. Jennifer Forcht swam 23.84 in the 50 yard freestyle race, finishing 10th and knocking nearly one second off her time, substantial in a short event.

On the men’s side Csaba Pek broke a school record in the preliminary round of the 200 yard IM, a record set 11 years ago. It marked the second straight day that FAU set a school record. Pek came back in the championship final and finished eighth. Anthony Fermin, Evan Boley, Tyler Griffith and Mikolaj Czarnecki teamed together on the 200 yard freestyle relay and dropped their time by over seven seconds to 1:23.69 and finished fifth. Jonathan Van Zee took over 10 seconds off his 500 yard freestyle time, lowering his best to 4:33.81.

Friday’s events are the 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 400 medley relay and the men’s one-meter dive. A team champion will be crowned at the conclusion of events on Saturday.

Wow our girls are doing good but we need to step it back up. We used to be number one in women's swimming.  :-\

Oh how I miss swimming, minus the crazy amount of practices.

Side Note: The Men's side of the meet seems to have Finals, Consolation Finals, plus a Bonus Final? Weird. Normally it's just finals and consolation's. I'm confused!
