I don't know what the budget is ,but we need to spend every penny. Very well thought out post.
Thanks!
Most of the things I mentioned were pretty cheap - it doesn't cost a lot to make banners / flyers / posters or chalk the ground - but the billboards, bus wraps and Facebook/Google ads are a little pricier. The Athletics Welcome Baskets should cost <$50k.
I think we'd also benefit from making home games more like events, as I've mentioned before. I think Bury the Burrow in Red should be a larger affair than it is, with a carnival and tailgate in the parking lot, maybe some Program Board events and Alumni events attached to it, so it's like an all day (or two day thing). Fortunately the game experience itself has been incredible and we've built up this great thing…
Add that to the list: Sign a contract with FIU ensuring Bury the Burrow in Red for the next five years and focus on clustering events around the game to make it an even bigger event. If that's not possible, discuss how to proceed with the event without FIU, possibly by making Bury the Burrow in Red the first game of the season or the last. I think I'll start a separate poll about this…

Like let them know on student email, twitter, and facebook, what is going on with our teams. It seems like the Athletic Department tried that before but I'm also guilty of deleting those emails. How are we going to self promote to the student body?
In my experience, email spam is one of the least successful ways to do it because the university as a whole spams students about every.single.thing. I went back and cleaned up something like 1000 junk emails from the university.
Tweeting and Facebook are not bad ideas if you can convince students to add them.

GREAT ideas posted here and I am sure our great new AD is reading them too!

I can ask SGA if they could mention the basket idea to Chun. I'll post what Pres. Huffman thinks
And do the same for the Spring Semester for the spring sports for the newbies on campus. Make them feel welcome and get 'em involved in supporting all of our Owl teams!

I nominate OwlDoc for employment as an assistant to Mr. Chun - great ideas, very proactive and the positive energy is something very lacking, especially after the past few football season fiascos.
In all my years at FAU, the marketing I saw was:
- mass email
- a banner in the Breezeway that hung for several days announcing a game "tonight"
- banners at the various spots along the roads on campus, like the one across from the Lifelong Learning Center
- every once in a while, a trifold in the Breezeway cafe
- rarely, a poster or two in the Breezeway
- During Homecoming week there would be the little "lawn signs" around campus - super effective, but only done once a year
I just didn't understand it, because when I was the Director of Marketing for a student club on campus, I could make 200 copies of a flyer for $10 and more or less blanket campus with that. Posters would not be much more and chalk was a couple dollars. Design and production took maybe an hour or two, and putting it all on campus took only a few more.
If one guy in one day can blanket the campus with advertisements on a budget of $50, then what's Athletics' excuse? I'm sure Athletics and student clubs have different levels of "acceptable" standards - for instance, maybe they're "above" chalking the grounds or putting up flyers in the Breezeway - but when you don't have a big budget, as is probably the excuse, you need to get creative with the money you do have.

+1
I had it done for every single series…with one guy, and some spray paint.
There is no excuse.

I have a question. Couldn't the University send people out with info on games, the stadium, to like the boca mall, Palm Beach Gardens Mall, the Lauderdale Mall etc. Maybe have the marketing and graphic arts students do commercials for broadcasting locally here? I figure it be cheaper if the students produced it then hiring a advertising firm.
Last year Howard himself campaigned at the mall to sell season tickets.
As for having students do the advertising: Well, that's just too good of an idea. Makes way too much sense.

UM - Sebastian
THE Ohio State - Brutus the Buckeye
Texas - Bevo
Syracuse - Otto
make it a name that everyone can pronounce and everyone can remember. Not sure who came up with the idea to change the name from Hootie, but change it's time to change it back
My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!
