Micheal Moore?  Nothing to do with that.  Just paid attention in history class.  We didn't wipe out an entire race and enslave people to start this country?  That all made up?  Not to mention guys such as Thomas Jefferson weren't even religious.

My only point is your post makes it sound like its christians vs athiests in this country (not true).  This country was founded for religious reasons (not true, except to escape the Catholic church and find religious freedom which means you have the freedom to believe what you choose).

My point was that the aclu does not support what you have in bold, they seek to abolish it by forced legal action.

Yeah, this really has nothing to do with Michael Moore or his weight.

Like I said, the ACLU has a broad focus (from Wiki): affirmative action, birth control/abortion, criminal law reform, death penalty, free speech (like the stuff we do on this board), campaign funding/lobbying, gun control, HIV/AIDS discrimination in healthcare, children's rights, immigrant's rights, gay/transgender rights, atheist rights, minority rights, national security, abolishing torture, prisoner's rights (what we're talking about here), privacy protection, religious issues, voting, etc.

I can see where a lot of that wouldn't vibe with Republicans, especially conservative Christian Republicans. Wiki also pointed out that, in addition to "attacking Christmas", they've also defended Neo-Nazis because "free speech doesn't only exist when you like what someone is saying." That's a good point, unfortunately.

Myself, I'm fairly politically-inert, I don't go to rallies, I don't chain myself to trees. I'm just an educated guy who understands that it's especially easy to be a straight white man in this country. And it's also easy when you're a straight white man here to not understand where other people are coming from. I have black friends, I have gay/lesbian friends, I have Muslim friends, sure, but I really have no idea what they go through on a daily basis. I'd like to think that, because I care about these people, if Americans were sh*tting all over them for some ridiculous reason there would also be somebody in America that could stand up for them - and usually that organization is the ACLU.

Outside of that, I don't think (or care) about the ACLU.

But now they may be coming after FAU. Can I take it more personally now? Nah. Worse case scenario is that we lose the $6M and any subsequent donations from GEO. Best case scenario is that nothing happens. Pretty sure FAU didn't break any laws by accepting this money… not sure what we have to be worried about.

GEO Group, on the other hand… but hey, that's their problem. With the amount of money their executive board members probably make and how we treat white collar criminals in this country, the worst case scenario is they spend, what, a month or so in jail? They'll be out in time to attend the first home football game of the 2013 season.

If the ACLU really wants to help they will get off the FAU topic and go find mistreated prisoners and file civil suits against Geo Group and sue them.  After suing them over and over again if they are such a bad company that lets people face illegal situaions and abuses in prison they will not have $6 million to give to anybody.

Extactly my point. Go after GeoGroup, not the university who accepted a gift from a follow alum who just happen to be the CEO of GeoGroup. All FAU did was accept a gift, not ask GeoGroup to build a prison on the property.

With the ACLU now "involved" (where are Al Sharpton or Jesse hiding) we better ttell out friend Mark at "it's Owl Time" to hold off on selling those genuine previously used (in GeoGroup "homes") Owl Tasers! ;)
