Angelos gives an update...

It ironically appeared ont he Rex Walter's blog…i DONT like the another year scenario, but hiughly doubt that will happen…anyway here is the latest…$5 mil is chump change…i would certainly hope Willie Gary or someone else could throw that bone in to get things rolling:

"Question from Carlos
Hello Sir,
I am writing to find out if there is a realistic time frame for an on campus stadium? If there is, what can students do to help it become more of a reality?

Response from Athletics Director Craig Angelos
Carlos:
Thanks for your email. The latest update on the stadium is that we are trying to raise approximately $5 million in one form or another in order to have the stadium completed for the 2010 football season. If that goal is not attained in quick fashion, then it may force us to a year later. Nevertheless, we are very optimistic that we are all shooting for a 2010 opening of our new stadium. I know this has been a long process and I am sure that there will be more twists and turns but we will keep you updated as that occurs.

Thanks for your support,
Craig"

This has to be the stealthiest fundraising campaign I've ever seen… don't tell anyone, it's a secret!

two things surprise me.

1. the time frame. may go beyond 2010?

2. looking for $5 million?

To go past 2010 would not be good.
$5 million? Hopefully thats a type-o. Maybe it was missing a -0-. Should have been $50 million.

I thought the whole point of the Innovation Village is that it required no start-up money from us… oh well. One way or another.

i dunno…thats almost 10% - which is sizeable…you only need 5% down in general real estate transactions to move on it…i know this is different, but that would be enough committment to get things started i would believe…

I'm maybe wrong but I thought Howard or Angelos wanted to raise enough to get around waiting for the dorms and other revenue streams to become money machines. We would still need those to pay for the stadium but the way I understand it is the revenues generated by those things will finance the stadium. I don't know enough of the details to know how it will all work.

Here's the latest from Angelos's Blog, interesting comment.

"July 3, 2007

Craig,
Just wondering when we are done playing FIU at Dolphin Stadium for our home games against them? I know that playing that game there was part of the deal to break our lease, but when does that agreement run out?

Thank you for the email. Our contract with Dolphin Stadium includes all home game vs. FIU through the 2012 season. Therefore, starting in 2013 we will play all of our home games against FIU at our home stadium on our FAU campus. I can't wait!!!

Best wishes,
Craig"

Three more Shulla Bowls at Dolphin stadium :( That means if we get our stadium for the 10 season - we would play two games against FIU away from the Nest :P

how much would it cost to get out of that contract if anything. After all the Canes and the Fins will both be playing and they may just let us off the hook or decrease the penalty.
