BOT Meeting for July 22nd - Looks like we are Stadium bound...

Rick said

They are voting to approve this:

"This agreement will authorize finalization of the building designs, site plans, operating agreement, and financing plan."

And to me, the "lingo" means the following:
Finalization: voting to approve…..
Building Designs: the architectural designs
Site plans : What is being built where
Operating agreement : Who has control over what
Financing plan : $12 million up front so that construction on the stadium can begin.

So to me…… if what I said above is correct…. FAU will announce the financing plan for a stadium on Wednesday. Next step after that: break ground.

:) :) :)

So you're saying that if they sign the Pre-Approval agreement Wednesday, Athletics can then proceed directly to the bank to secure a bond for the stadium? They don't have to wait until Final Approval on September 21st, correct?

If that's true, we could conceivably break ground on the stadium and have the construction fences up when students arrive for the first day of classes! Imagine that!

I wouldn't get to ahead of ourselves, Owlcountry. I'm sure they'll have to pull permits, politely relocate the burrowing owls and gopher tortoises from the area (which will draw protesters) to another area on campus, etc. etc. etc.

But the important part of this is that we will have a stadium on our campus soon.

So for all the doubters that said FAU wasn't doing their part, dragging their feet, etc., FAU officials in a recession , economic downturn or whatever other gentle word used to describe the current state of the economy, I ask you to please say "I'm sorry for doubting FAU." LOL

All in all, when this is final, I think we all need to go to the new site of the stadium, take some lawnchairs and some icy adult beverages and toast. Then, we'll just lay there and imagine all of the great memories that will be created.

This is a great day!

This is the news we have waited to hear for many years.  The only issue is getting financing which may not be easy in this day and age.

The good news is that FAU HAS been working on something as a Plan B to getting naming rights and they are commited to getting this stadium built.  You do not go through all this trouble without that commitment.

Whether it is 2010 or 2011, I don't care.  i just want to get financing and get the shovels in the ground and celebrate.

I think it will be 2011 personally.  There is still much to do.  Now if we can convince the Gators to move the opening game in 2011 from the Swamp to the new stadium, that could be quite an event  :)

Yeah you'd have better luck financing the stadium yourself lol. UF doesn't travel unless it's for SEC games

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

There still could be a chance that it could open halfway through in 2010and we could move Michigan St. back.

FAU was supposedly in negotiations to move the Michigan State game to December…

The wheels are turning on an 18 wheeler, rolling down hill, with a full load of cargo…

But to pull anything off, other than a partial Stadium, in time for 2010 (at any point) seems highly unlikely given all that has to happen with the bond…
