BOT stadium presentation

After skimming the 249 pages, I saw that they do address one of my concerns…the 2008 and 2009 seasons. They discuss 3 options. 1. Playing at an existing stadium such as Dolphin Stadium or Orange Bowl. 2. Building Temp. facility. Or 3. Playing all games on the road.

Option 1 is fine, but when you consider that UM will be moving to DS next year and with the Marlins still playing there, that seriously limits available Saturdays. Also, the Orange Bowl will likely be knocked down within the next year(likely to be replaced by a Marlins Stadium). Plus, as they point out in the document, FAU has not been successful playing so far off campus.

The temp. stadium, they point out, is costly, but to me, playing all our games on the road is simply not a realistic option. First, it would kill all fan momentum heading into the opening of the stadium. Second, talk about a recruiting nightmare. I think a temp. stadium is the only good option…aside from hoping Lockhart remains in place until our place opens.

They actually work out that the temp stadium would be the least expensive option for the gap season. It would be a good "warm-up" to operating our own facility on campus and help ad sales and naming rights get underway. It would cost more to play at Dolphin Stadium than at FAU.

I will gladly take it. But I would like them to address what happens in 2008 and 2009 if Lockhart is torn down prior to the opening of our stadium.

18 months to build - quote from the admin circle…

IF they secure enough propositional funding and naming rights by FEB 2008, we are in and playing for opening day 2009…

You heard it here first!

That would be perfect! Then we wouldn't have to worry about a temporary stadium. Did they happen to mention how likely having this funding in place in 5 months would be?

how hard could it be to now garner 5 - 10M worth of private interest in this project??

i dont think that will be too hard…but that's just my opinion having worked there and having some knowlege of the fundraising process, etc…

It's times like this that the fact that Brogan is a likable politician and not a stiff academic will pay off.

I think he can do it. We'll know in February.
