FAU moving forward with stadium plans - "food is on the negotiating table"

Okay, than just a thought…not sure how I feel about it but how much $$$ would FAU have to drop to fix Lockhart into a 30,000 seat respectable stadium?

Probably a few million.

I was never really opposed to this idea. Putting $6 or $7 million in to Lockhart would make it a great facility. We could add luxury boxes where the "boxes" are now with tents and ceiling fans. We could add additional bathroom facilities underneath the endzone bleachers. We could built a lockerroom facility behind the west endzone.

Plus, we would be able to sell beer inside the games because it's an off-campus stadium.

It's not a stadium on campus…but if an on-campus stadium isn't a reality (which I think it very much is), I don't see harm in upgrading Lockhart.

Here is what I need an answer to…..Michigan State will be down in South Florida September 2010, Lockhart will no longer be available and Pro Player is occupied by Miami….where do we plan on playing them?

Ted Hutton reported a while back that Lockhart WILL be available. The Orioles have moved to Vero Beach.

Okay, than just a thought…not sure how I feel about it but how much $$$ would FAU have to drop to fix Lockhart into a 30,000 seat respectable stadium?

Umm…Why?  If they are going to spend any money, it will be for our own stadium on OUR campus.  There would be no point in putting money into a building we do not own, 20 minutes from campus.

Just seems like we are never getting that on campus stadium.  Just wondering if now that the Orioles are leaving town, we could work out an option to make Lockhart into a decent stadium?

I agree with this idea.  If the economy is sooooo bad that we cant find somebody to purchase naming rights, then put $7-$10 million into Lockhart and play there until the economy comes around.  I am sure the City of Ft. Lauderdale would work something out profit sharing wise now that the Orioles are gone (what else are they going to do with that stadium) and maybe get some matching tax dollars to help with the upgrade.  I remember everybody on this board wanting to spend millions for a temp stadium on campus, I think that money would be much better spent adding on to something that already exists.

The stadium charade continues:

FAU is working to complete the stadium by the 2010 football season; “However the project is contingent upon certain approvals and financial requirements, which may require a later opening.”

Who is this quote from?

Brogan listed 13 goals for the coming year including increasing out-of-state student recruitment, “maximize presidential participation” in fundraising, and _ what everyone is wondering about _ build new residence halls and a football stadium by fall 2010.

“The advancement of this project is key to FAU’s continued efforts to offer a more traditional university experience on the Boca Raton campus,” Brogan said. “A plan will be implemented to allow for the construction of a new student apartment-style housing and the football stadium in 2010.”

It was in Kim Miller's blog post. I believe it's from the solicitation for vendors.

BTW, for a far less than it would cost to renovate Lockhart a temp stadium on campus is a much better option.

While I understand that most everyone is saying "yeah right" about this, I have a good feeling about 2010. I like that Brogan keeps pushing it instead of saying, "Well, whenever you get around to it…"

It may be sorta strange to build your construction time around one opposing team but I think this is the key driving force for our Fall 2010 target date. MSU is on the schedule as a home date to help us launch this stadium.
