They moved their blogs to new pages…might not be displaying if you are on a Blackberry…here is the text:

For what it’s worth, FAU stadium update
by Kim Miller

There’s been all kinds of speculation as to when the deadline is for Florida Atlantic University to get the money it needs to build a football stadium by 2010.

* So, I asked for an update. Here were my questions;

* How much money raised?

* Is August/September 2010 still the expected completion date?

If not, is there a new timeline?

Here was FAU’s official answer;

“The University continues working hard to create a viable development plan for the stadium.

Obviously the global economic crisis has challenged our efforts. Nevertheless, we are actively pursuing multiple funding options.

We hope to present a plan to the FAU Board of Trustees soon that will enable football to be played on the Boca Raton campus in 2010.”

I may be reading into this, but I’m guessing fall 2010 is definitely out.

It does not say 2010 is out.
This was my response to the issue;

I think some government money should go to help “start” the stadium (and expanded, much needed student housing). After all, FAU is a public state University.

Get a 10M grant from the Feds as part of the stimulus package and use that as the starter funds and raise the other 52M from bond sales. That is using only 10M of tax dollars and turning it immediately into a 62M University improvement project, creating hundreds of jobs and helping FAU with student housing and athletic facilities which will last decades!

In addition, get the I-95 University exit moved up, and fund it from stimulus as well. Think of the new jobs now in Boca and all of South Florida! Call it Obama Stadium if you want, who cares, just get it done and get some highly needed construction jobs started up immediately.

I think this would be an unfounded, positive way to use our tax dollars for once! A “heck” of a lot better than bailing out multi-million dollar making corporate execs over and over, and for a very small pittance comparatively as well!

Sorry dude… file that under "never going to happen." Wish it would but it's not.

This is more likely.

I think the only way we play in 2010 in Boca is if we get the naming rights sold, and if the plans are to build a scaled down stadium. The scaled down stadium would probably be in the 20k-25k range with additions in the 45k-55k range. I can't see justifying more than that when we only average 16k a game

I would not be surprised to see a one-sided stadium for 10k people. Just so they have something on campus.

We have to average 15k per game to remain in 1A so that's not an option.

What would be crazy, but maybe cool - would be a 10k grand stand with blanket/bring your own chair seating all the way around the rest of the area for students. It could be a giant picnic - kinda like the berms at baseball.

I could be wrong but i think they changed that rule, I don't think you need to average 15K a game anymore

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

I think you are right because how do you explain FIU's attendance.  :P
