Why else would they have the bonfire and a practice on such short notice?

It could just be because the Chamber of Commerce bigwigs are on campus that day, and they want to show them that FAU really does have school/community spirit.

If they had a major sponsor there is no way they would be able to keep it quiet. They would be too giddy about finally getting some big bucks.  I wish they would announce a stadium sponsor, but I'm definitely not counting on anything big this week.

Love the positive spirit, kinda glad you guys aren't on the fund raising committee.

What? Has nothing to do with having a lack of "positive spirit", its about being realistic.  I'll be happy to be proven wrong, actually… I really hope I am.

Yeah, i hear you on that.  I don't think it's about not having positive spirit.  It just seems that FAU fans have been let down before in regards to the stadium.

Re: Possible Lead in Stadium Funding...

If the deal was made at a high level and no underlings were told I don't see why it couldn't be kept a secret.  Its when the rest of the people in the organization know that it slips out.  If only Brogan/Angelos/HS know about it and they all agreed to keep it secret until bonfire It could be done.

That being said, its probably just for the bigwigs, not to announce anything special.  They are shooting for 2010 so they dont have the incentive to push for money now now now as hard as if the stadium was going up for 2009.

Also….

I was looking up Commerce Bank and there are at least two:

Commerce Bank (Commerce Bancshares) - Kansas City, MO has no branches in Florida and has $15B in assets and not affiliated with TD Commerce

TD Commerce (Commerce Bancorp) - HQ in Cherry Hill, NJ and recently purchased by Toronto-Dominion does have branches in S. Florida with >$365B in assets

So if the big donor is definitely from Kansas City it is not the TD Commerce Bank, although considering their presence in S. Florida they should be considered a contender if the Kansas City thing isn't true

I don't think banks will be making any commitments right now on anything, they are all hurting.

Bank Atlantic just let 115 people go and closing branches….

Confirmed, Im in the industry and all the banks earnings are in the toilet. Dont look for a bank to do this anytime soon. They are reeling from loan exposure and recovering from the inverted yield curve that was around.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.
