It's not a petition, those are for people who just want to put their name on something to complain ;). Name it for Howard, Inc (http://Nameitforhoward.org) is a non-profit charity which will be 501©3 fundraiser sometime soon with the main goal raise funds to name the field for Coach Schnellenberger.

Re: SchnellyAid

We raised $487 at our kickoff event Thursday, one dollar at a time. We're going to do another in July to ramp up for football season. Thanks to those who made it out.

The site is fully functional but we'll keep uploading more sound as the summer progresses.

I have some questions regarding this project:

1.  Are you looking to name just the field or the stadium or both?  The naming rights for the stadium with GEO was for a period of time and then it was over.  I am assuming it would take a larger donation to name it forever with one donation.
2.  Have you spoken with the FAU athletics about what it will take to name it after Howard?

Thank you for your responses….and good luck in your fundraising.

1. Name the field, and donate for athletics and general fund scholarships. Also allowing them to go out and find a sponsor for the building thus raising money for practically the same item twice.

2. Spoke with Athletics, they will not recognize nor publicly back the campaign. While the goals are the same, to bring in money to FAU and FAU Athletics, there is a finite amount of local fundraising dollars and I told them I was not going to interfere; Schnellenberger has such a large national following the goal is to raise money from many, many, many random people who might have never even heard of FAU but Howard was at their program and revered.

2A. We are also going to work with student groups, make it a bragging rights contest, post their amounts raised on one of the site pages and give each group back a percentage raised at the end of each year.

Re: SchnellyAid

About 25 people attended, raised $487. Small percentage of those who attended are football season ticket holders, and I don't know if they contribute any other way.

We're trying to get those who don't already contribute into the tent and hopefully winning products on every athletic field will get them to open a checkbook no matter the donation amount.

Re: SchnellyAid

Here's an article from the UP about the efforts to name the field for Howard:

Former Head Coach Schnellenberger spent 11 years pioneering FAU’s football program, all the while raising funds and campaigning for a new, on-campus stadium. In 2011, when his efforts paid off and the stadium finally went up, Schnellenberger was honored with a life-like bronze statue, which sits just outside the $70 million facility.

That tribute had a lasting effect on Schnellenberger. But, if Eric Salzman has his way, the statue could be trumped by 100 yards of AstroTurf.

Name it for Howard

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

The school would benefit from selling the name of the stadium, and they need the money to grow. I'd sign for naming the field after Howard.
