showing off stadium for possible naming rights

Let's at least treat it like the REALLY BIG billboard that it is and at least get an annual contract on the "space"! But that does include getting OUR OWN NAME up there too! Pay someone a 10% commission on the value and term of it and I bet it get's done by someone - anyone! To me 90% of something is much better than 100% of NOTHING!

AND let's get it done BEFORE the U.S. Woman's World Cup game at the stadium - a good start for the "sponsor/advertiser" if you ask me and a real incentive to get it done quickly for both parties!

Obviously academics are more important….however, I bet getting this football program into the top 25 would generate more revenue for academics than anything else they could do.

Actually, the OE college and school of Accounting could easily raise more money YOY than athletics could.  And if you think naming rights gets us into the top 25, well, I'll just let you live that fantasy.  Naming rights costs have come down considerably from where they started pre-construction.

You should have watched 60 minutes on Sunday regarding how much money big time college football generates for the University.

Secondly, you are referring to direct money and not the secondary effects a succesful college football program has.  Donations, applications, naming rights, selling suites, other advertising, merchandise sales, season tickets, etc.

Bottom line, there isn't a program engineering or accounting that could raise the money football can at a school like Ohio State, Michigan, Florida, Oklahoma, etc.

You're changing your argument.  You started with naming rights would help get us in the Top 25.  Then you change to the effects of big time college football on the university financially.  While CFB is BIG BUSINESS, there still are HUNDREDS of programs that operate in the red compared to the few that operate in the black.

A school like FAU will need at least 25 years, if not 50, to have similar success.

I can spin your argument easily and argue that Dartmouth, Harvard, Yale, Lehigh etc have academic programs that will forever out-generate the athletic programs.  You are arguing we should play football like historically dominant programs and raise money the same way.  The fact is our OE and Accounting schools have been nationally known for a significant amount of time.

Bottom line - naming rights mean squat if you have a poor product, which we have.  Naming the stadium will not magically improve our roster or our cornerback's abilities to play press coverage or our OL to open holes for the RB's.

All very true, until the naming rights bring in more cash for better facilities for better recruits to lead to better corners and OL!

Yes it will take a while, but let's at least get started on that road! Go Owls!

Building a large succesful football program brings more recognition and money than an accounting or engineering program.  I listed the reasons why, didn't change my argument.  You think people in California think of FSU's education program when they think of the school???  No.  Most people think Miami is a large University, not a small private instituion with a large asian enrollment.  Same as USC.  Your football program is the face of your University and the reason MOST people go back to campus and give back.

My point has nothing to do with the naming rights on the stadium, and I dont think selling those rights will make us better.  But it will add $700,000 per year to our athletics budget which, call me crazy, might help us.  We went from 10,000 applications to 24,000 in one year and will continue to go up….mostly due to the traditional movement which is focused around football and hopefull soon basketball improvments.

Teambeer is the most knowledgeable FAU sports fan I know, way smarter than me.
