Stadium Construction to begin in Feb?

Off topic question, but indirectly related:

How did Marcus get reassigned, and she is still doing this?

Because Marcus Nelson is a sports reporter and Kimberly Miller is The Post's education writer.

President of the No Homers Club. Keepin' it real since 2001.

Both Angelos and Schnellenberger took some heat in their mailbags recently… Coach's newest blog update is basically people telling him how he should coach.

Re: Stadium Construction to begin in Feb?

We've been "hoping" for the stadium for nearly a decade.

Here's more of the quote:

I am always hopeful that the necessary elements will fall into place to still allow us get it built by 2010. Stay tuned.

Stay tuned, Owls Country! Deadlines are meaningless here… September has come and gone and we are still "hopeful". Now we have another excuse. The stadium should have been built before we started playing our first game. The project has been reduced from a dome to a bowl to a horseshoe and now to two sidelines with no end zones.

If someone wants to donate to the stadium what will they get, and when? Even today, NOBODY KNOWS.

That kinda puts it in persective. I hadn't really thought about the regression of the stadium. Next thing we will hear is they are only going to build on one sideline. They'll split it down the middle for the home crowd and visiting crowd.

No, the next thing you'll hear is that they revised the document to include a scenario with 20,000 seats…

Both a 20k and a 30k have been priced out and spaced out in case they need to go that route…

Doesn't mean it's going to be 20k seats, just that they're prepared to go that route if the money for 30k isn't in place.

20K….30K.  Obviously if the difference is a few million dollars, they may as well build it bigger right now.  But  I suppose it doesn't really matter as long as it can be expanded quickly.  What matters is that they build something on campus NOW!

Conceptual design will be done by Nov8
Advanced Schematic design will be done Dec15
The complete Construction Documents (the biggest pain in the butt) will be done May10, 2009

Looks like ground breaks June21, 2009
All done August 1-8, 2010

I don't mind if its 20,000, as long as its just taking out the endzone seats (which are empty anyways for our games right now) and then we can easily expand to 30k by just filling it in.  If they put Palm Trees and such in the North Endzone it will be alot like Orange Bowl…and the South Endzone will be somewhat closed off by that building that goes there..just no seats.

Where does this information come from??

Can it really be completed in 13 months??

Just to let you know how things can get hung up. Southern Illinois University was scheduled to begin construction on a new stadium in Sept. It had been in the planning stages for about 3 years or so. An article in the local paper talked about the upcoming ground breaking that was a week or so away. What happens less than one week out from the start of construction?? Someone neglected to file some paperwork (I am not sure exactly what type), but the whole thing was put on hold and still has not started over a month later. The point is that the slightest oversight can delay things at the last moment. Having 13 months to build a stadium doesn't leave any error time, not even a month.

GO OWLS!!!
