Re: Stadium Construction to begin in Feb?

So, 20k seats… like Lockhart? Wouldn't that completely change the numbers, projected revenue, etc.? Seems like it would be inadequate from day 1. With the box seats, club seats, etc., it seems like it would actually have fewer seats for general admission and students than Lockhart.

For the record, what's the smallest stadium in I-A?

The smallest is Idaho (dome) at 16,000.

Here are a few others of note:
Toledo 26,248
Miami (OH) 24,268
Ohio 24,000
Ball State 22,500
WKU 17,500 (22,000 in 2009)

For the record there are numerous more between say 28,000 and 32,000.

The number of seats doesn't matter as much as the number of fans. If FAU builds a 20,000 seat stadium I imagine that demand for tickets will be big and that will provide incentive for adding on.

Personally I would rather see a 20,000 seat stadium with average attendance of 18,000 as opposed to a 30,000 seat stadium with 18,000. Realistically I think 25,000-30,000 is the best bet.

The timeline is from the revised Stadium Program

ERROR: A link was posted here (url) but it appears to be a broken link.

http://wise.fau.edu/facilities/uavp/programs-folder/FAU_STADIUM_PROGRAM_DOCUMENT_FIN_fr_Sign_2.14.08_-_Amended_9.08.pdf

Each step has to be approved by the BOT so they give like a week in between stages

I hope we don't have hickups like Southern Illinois…but it seems that they have allotted time for whatever permits they might need and inspections.

Let's see here…get a dome, and honor HS' initial request…have too few seats so that tickets would always be at a shoratge and EVERY game would be sold out practically (see Duke Hoops for illustration)…AND, last but not least, the price tag is far less than 62M…

Brilliant!

Let's build a Kibbie-Dome!

Re: Stadium Construction to begin in Feb?

We've only had over 20,000 people for two games: Our first game and USF.

Until we have a consistant fan base of over 20,000 at games…why do we need that many seats?

If you pay another $10 million to get 30,000 seats for (what would up being) one big home game a year (Michigan State, USF, etc.), that extra 10,000 seat-revenue would not equate to $10 million.

Smart move on FAU's part.

Think about it as if you were a new homeowner, newly wed and you have no kids.

Do you buy a 5 bedroom, 4 bathroom house now because you "want" four kids in the future, or do you buy a two bedroom, one bathroom house for the next five or six years while you have maybe one kid.

Re: Stadium Construction to begin in Feb?

If all they could afford right now is to build a 20K seat stadium, fine..start digging.  But if the difference is only $10 million and they have the ability to fund 30K, then I really hope that they don't go cheap.  It will only get more expensive to expand later, so build it right the first time.

That said, I'll repeat what I said earlier…Build something and build it NOW!

It will be more expensive to build later on, that is true. However when we have an on campus stadium and all of the money made is going right to FAU rather than having to pay to use Lockhart, plus pretty sure the parking and concessions go to lockhart as well. If you have 17K people at a game and it's 100 degrees outside people are going to buy water especially since they can't sell alcohol and those of us who live off campus and have to pay to park that money will go to them, plus if they hold concerts etc. in the new stadium all money generated goes to FAU so that money can be put towards things like expansion on the stadium or maybe a new baseball stadium or new BBall arena

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Didn't we just sink over $10 million into the current one last year?
