student apartments?

I see your thought process, but based on that way of thinking wouldnt we build a 15,000 seat football stadium?  I think Greek Housing and the Football stadium both go by the same motto…."if you build it they will come".

That may work for Kevin Costner but contact your national fraternity and ask them about that theory and they will tell you that you are very very wrong. Greek Housing does not increase membership, positive leadership development, programming and strong leaders are what help chapters grow.

and I don't see anything wrong with building a small stadium that sells out for our bigger games, it'll be the first time in FAU history that demand will actually be created and then things like season tickets will become a priority to some of our less committed fans

Agreed - especially from a chapter that was small when I was there. Living together in the same apartments and houses led to bad results. The brothers that were the closest lived separate from each other.

So you are saying Greek Life didn't change at UCF with the addition of Greek Housing?  Because I know for a fact it did.  You have to create an enviornment for Greek life to thrive and I believe chapter houses are a big part of that equation.  And I dont really care how many seats they put in the stadium other than the fact that they have enough room for all the alumni that want to be there, building something so small that 5,000 alumni that desire to attend the game and cant will be a negative thing, especially in the fundraising department.

Re: student apartments?

A University that is on board and understands how much a thriving greek society can contribute to a school is the key element. If the university supports the greeks, then the housing will come but keep in mind that the greeks at UCF are facing a major coup from the University now. A number of chapters have been kicked off campus, houses are being condemed, torn down and replaced all because the chapters lacked leadership/oversight who knows, but they grew too large and turned into trouble and now a number of those big ones are gone. Sig Ep, Pike and SAE were once the leaders at UCF, but hazing, parties and huge fights came from the "frat house" images they had and now they're gone.

UCF sees that they've got incredible student support WITHOUT the greek system, so unless they contribute elsewhere (which they aren't) they why do they need them?

Good Point.  Only thing I can say to counter that argument is that every alumni event I go to the majority of the younger people there are Greek.

Why would I go to UCF alumni events?  You missed one heck of a game on Saturday.
