It may seem REALLY ridiculous, but maybe we can play at Boca High football stadium? It takes away cost of putting up bleachers, etc and it is basically on-campus.

not while HS is the coach…no way, NOT HAPPENING…

Re: temp on campus stadium

We can't play at Boca High because of parking. I would love a temporary stadium on campus, but it looks like we're getting Lockhart for another two seasons.

if, and only if, they are able to "talk" the Orioles into postponing demolition for the 09 season…

AND if they cant come up with the remaining $8M needed to complete on the On Campus Stadium for the 09 season as well….

Re: temp on campus stadium

Actually I dont think the Orioles have finalized on the deal. I think they began looking at Dodgertown once the Dodgers are gone.

Re: temp on campus stadium

I would just hate to see some half-assed temp stadium just for the sake of playing on campus. Honestly I don't envision a temp stadium being any better than Lockhart. It will probably in fact be much worse. A temp stadium would basically be a high school stadium. FAU is now a bowl caliber team and owns a conference championship and a bowl championship. FAU should not be playing in a high school stadium or any sort of temp stadium that resembles a high school stadium.

Re: temp on campus stadium

What about building the actual stadium, just in sort of a two phase deal.

By Fall 2009 build the stands for the home and away (no horseshoe or luxury boxes).  That would hold maybe 20-25k.

Then after the season is done, keep building and finish out the horseshoe and build the luxury boxes and all the fancy stuff and finishing touches.  For the sake of the big wigs they can say that the stadium officially opens in 2010 so that all the luxury boxes have their donors in them, but for everyone else they can have a stadium on campus that captures alot of the momentum that we have built, get more students to walk on down the breezeway to games.

FIU has a phased construction process, they will be playing in a slightly upgraded stadium and then it will be completed later.

Since its not "temporary" its not a waste of money, and it also has that sort of permanent feel since it will be the same as what will be coming.  Might also push the admin to allow students on sideline seats rather than ONLY endzone.  Alot love the endzone, but some want sideline, why not have both?

I like the idea. The only question is whether or not the money would be in place in order to begin the stadium even if it is done in two phases.

Re: temp on campus stadium

Seriously, I feel like alot of the construction time and money is going towards the box seats and innovation village part of it (restaurants and stores).  How much could it cost to get the steel frame in and have the field ready?  10 million? 20?  One naming right should be around 15M, so that should get us rolling.

Howard Schnellenberger Field at Office Depot Stadium on the campus of beautiful Florida Atlantic University in sunny Boca Raton, Florida.

Or maybe since Carnival is so big on south florida and had their Performing Arts Center, maybe Royal Caribbean?
