Update on Stadium from BOT meeting

I watched the webcast from the BOT meeting to hear the latest on the stadium.  From what I understand, this is what is happening:  While negotiating with Regions Bank, FAU learned that the BOG was changing the rules for which money can be borrowed.  They thought that was going to happen at a May 19th meeting but another government board(I don't remember the name) made a new set of recommendations and now the rules won't be set until the BOG meets in the middle of June.  So now, they are basically in a holding pattern because they cannot make a deal until they know how it must be structured.  They did say that they are working with Regions and both parties feel that a deal can be made that satisfies whatever structure the BOG decides on.  They said that "non-construction" work on the stadium is continuing and they'll be ready to build as soon as the financing is approved.

So now, the earliest the deal can be voted on will be a BOT meeting in July.  Obviously this is a delay, but not one that is FAU's fault.  They still sounded confident that the stadium will be done on time.  As always, we'll just have to wait and see what happens next.

Thanks for taking the time to post the update Owls44. It's just disheartening is all.  :(

It's nice to finally get the story about this delay. When it originally broke on Ted's blog, we were ready to blame Athletics. I'm sure at this point they're probably sick of all the meetings and paperwork and want to get the damn thing done too.

Well said Owlcountry. The general population of posters were quick to jump on FAU.

I'm confident, as I always am, that FAU is doing what they can to make this happen.

Re: Update on Stadium from BOT meeting

Spoke to Terry Mohajir tonight and he said that they are still "working their butts off" towards opening the stadium in September, 2011. All hands are on deck, and moving forward, as if it will be.

Mohajir said there is still a "good chance" that it will be online by September, and that to rule it out completely at this point is "not accurate".

On a side note:

He said that FAU will be launching a website dedicated towards driving ticket sales in June. It will show fans where they can purchase their seats in the stadium. It will also offer a bird's eye view from the seats of choice from the rendering perspective.

They are still choosing the "final" renderings from a group of about four sets.

You can see a similar website concept already employed by Michigan Here.

They should put these online so we can throw our two cents in as well. After all, we're the most hardcore fans FAU has. We're the ones who are going to be buying the tickets and sitting in that stadium. It makes sense to at least hear what we have to say, doesn't it?

Hopefully someone from Athletics is reading this.

The site is primarily designed for the premium seating from what he said…it should be up in a few weeks or so…

Right. I meant a separate site with the poll up.
