A couple of years ago UNF was supposed to start a football program and it was going to start at D-II and hoped to get to D-I AA and later to D-I. That was tabled and then it kind of went away. I haven't heard anymore but haven't checked there site in a while. There was some talk about Golf Coast possibly looking into to it also. In this area a couple of times it was mentioned that Florida Tech was thinking about a D-II team but has been pretty much rumors at this point. Hopefully it they would the corvette's will stay out of the equation.
UNF still very much wants a football team when the time is right.
FGCU is way too young. They have a thousand other things to think about.

nova is a D-II school (not I-AA…. division 2)
i don't see them getting a football team…
alex… where are your sources?
I read it on line @ wikepedia. It says they will be adding football to their collegiate sports in 2012. I know it's just a rumor, but NSU has a potential for a football team. NSU has good reputation, large student body, large alumni and some other things in my opinion. Remember that the Dolphins train over there and Huizenga supports the business school at NSU.
My point was that FAU is moving so slow with their stadium that I would not be surprised if NSU gets one on campus before FAU does.
I hope, I'm wrong.
I don't know how much potential they have to be a major college team or a big player in the area. I'm not sure how well it would work out being the only D2 team in the state. That would increase travel costs significantly, I would think. Also, the "large" student body is not that large on campus. I don't have numbers, but I'm pretty sure that more than half, maybe as high as two-thirds of their students are grad students. They have a lot of pure online students, too, and something like 10 "campuses" in Florida. I think they have only about 3,000 students at the main campus. And grad students aren't alumni in the same way as they are for their undergrad – not the same emotional tie to the school.
EXACTLY.
75%+ of NSU students are grad students in the med/dental/law/etc programs. They don't really have the time to support athletics.
I just don't think NSU will go forward with it.

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Pretty much states that FGCU will have a football team but not for about another decade.

Looks like they're being pretty reasonable about it.
Given 10+ years, FAU should be able to grow into a good enough football team that FAU and FGCU wouldn't be competing for the same recruits anyway.
Maybe NSU, FGCU and UWF could start Div.2 programs. They could play against FAMU too.
