Re: 2011-12 FAU Women's Basketball Schedule
Unfortunately the Owls (14-10, 9-4) went scoreless from thereon, missing their last five shots from the floor while the Hilltoppers were near perfect and pulled away for a 71-60 victory.
The loss snapped a three game win streak for FAU.
WKU (8-17, 5-8) led by just a single digit 38-37 at intermission before extending that margin to six points just under the half way mark of the second frame.
Strong defense, including 11 steals that contributed towards 19 FAU turnovers, bolstered the Toppers in the end.
The Owls got double digit offensive performances from Kimberly Smith (15) and Chenise Miller (13).
Florida Atlantic will next face Middle Tennessee State at 4:00 p.m. on Staurday.

Re: 2011-12 FAU Women's Basketball Schedule
A slow first half played its hand with the Owls (14-11, 9-5) as the squad managed just 16 points in the first period.
The Blue Raiders (22-5, 14-0) continued to build upon their lead throughout the second period with FAU never getting closer than 10 points.
Florida Atlantic shot just 2-of-17 from beyond the arc, and committed 29 turnovers on the afternoon.
Chenise Miller was the lone Owl in double figures with 10 points, while Kortni Jones poured in a game high 21 for MTSU.
The team will conclude the 2011-12 schedule with back-to-back home contests beginning with South Alabama on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

Re: 2011-12 FAU Women's Basketball Schedule
For the second game in a row, Florida Atlantic (15-11, 10-5) posted less than 20 points for the first period (18).
However, they returned favor in the second half holding the Jaguars to just 16, while securing 2nd place in the Sun Belt's eastern division in the process.
In nail-biting fashion, the Owls would trail the entire period until only :13 remained. That's when Kimberly Smith stepped to the line to drain a pair of free throws that put the Owls ahead for the game's final points.
South Alabama (16-11, 9-6) had three chances at a winning basket therafter, but missed two lay-ups attempts and a final jumper as time ran out.
In a defensive battle from start to finish, both teams struggled from the floor at 29.4% overall for the evening.
Chenise Miller and April Goins (game high nine rebounds) each had 13 points for FAU, who edged USA in ball control while comitting 18 turnovers to the Jaguars' 22.
Mary Nixon paced USA with a contest best 17 points.
Florida Atlantic will wrap up the 2011-12 regular season at home against Troy on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

But it wouldn't come easy as the Trojans erased a seven point Owl advantage midway through the first half to carry the lead all the way to the 8:38 mark of the second period.
Florida Atlantic (16-11, 11-5) would regain control though, never tailing from thereon. Led by Takia Brooks' 10 hauls, the Owls cleaned up in rebounds, outdoing the Trojans 49-29 on the afternoon.
Mariana Byczkowski, Vontrice Dennis, April Goins, Kristyn Madison, Viviana Penate, DaLita Scott and Stamps played their last contests at FAU Arena and were honored prior to tip-off.
The team also recognized 2011-12 Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Shontovia Williams, the program’s all-time leading scorer with 1,466 career points.
The win puts FAU in the second seed for the upcoming Sun Belt Tournament to be held next weekend. With the Owls securing the spot, they will initially avoid top seeded MTSU, as the Blue Raiders sit in the opposite bracket.
The team will take on the winner of the Western 4th seed vs Eastern 5th seed on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Re: 2011-12 FAU Women's Basketball Schedule
Six of the Owls' last eleven contests have now been decided by two points or less.
FAU trailed the entire contest, but outshot the Mean Green in the second half behind a 51.7% showing from the floor. Their first lead would be special, as April Goins tipped in the winning basket with just :02 remaining.
Free throws were sparse for Florida Atlantic (17-11, 12-5) in the first half, seeing just five chances at the line compared to 14 for North Texas. However, the tide swung in the opposite direction for the final frame, as the Owls connected on 9-of-15 tries while the Mean Green missed their only attempt.
Despite a 37-31 edge on the glass for UNT in the contest, FAU made up in turnovers, forcing almost twice as many takeaways (20-11).
Chenise Miller scored a game high 21 points to go with seven rebounds, and Terri Stamps and Goins rounded out three players in double figures for FAU with 13 points each.
Tamara Torru led North Texas with 17 points and was one of three players with six grabs for the Mean Green.
The Owls will next face UALR tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. in the semifinals. FAU lost the season's previous meeting 60-38 in Little Rock, with rebounding and three point play being trouble spots.

Re: 2011-12 FAU Women's Basketball Schedule
The teams were near even in shooting percentage, but Florida Atlantic saw a 25-43 deficit off the glass; contributing significantly towards twenty two more shot attempts for UALR (19-12) on the afternoon.
“That’s what really hurt us, their physicality”, said head coach Chancellor Dugan. “The energy and the intensity weren’t there (for us).”
The Owls trailed 27-21 at the break, however cooled at the 16:25 mark of the second half, going scoreless for just under six minutes thereafter. They would get no closer than 14 points down the stretch.
Senior guard Teri Stamps had 13 points in her final appearance, and was the lone player in double figures for FAU.
Taylor Gault posted 19 points for the Trojans, and Britteni Williams pulled down a game high 13 rebounds.
The team concludes the year at 17-12 overall, and 12-6 in Sun Belt play, their best performance since joining the league.
