Florida Atlantic University got an 18 point ballgame from Brittany Bowe and forced 22 turnovers as FAU defeated Louisiana-Lafayette 61-50 at FAU Arena on Saturday. The win gives the Owls a winning record in the month of January for the first time since they won the Atlantic Sun Conference in the 2005-06 season.

The Owls would take the lead midway through the first half after a slow start. Down by two eight minutes in, FAU went on a 10-3 run as a Bowe jumper put the Owls ahead 19-14 with 8:27 in the half. The Owls would slowly build the lead to double digits as a jumper by Andrea Taylor gave FAU a 30-20 lead at the half.

FAU would get off to a slow start in the first five minutes of the second half as the Ragin’ Cajuns cut the lead to single digits. Thats when the Owls went on a decisive 11-0 run to put the game out of reach. Two lay-ups by Bowe and a three-pointer by Susan Beauzil gave the Owls their biggest lead at 47-28. The Ragin’ Cajuns would get no closer than nine points after that.

“I wasn’t terribly pleased with our effort tonight,” said Head Coach Chancellor Dugan. “But we were able to get some timely buckets when we needed to and we had another good defensive game.”

FAU (9-12, 6-5 Sun Belt) shot 34 percent from the field (22-64) led by Bowe’s 18 points. Carla Stubbs added nine points as FAU only turned the ball over 11 times and made 13 of 19 free-throws.

Louisiana-Lafayette (3-18, 0-10 SBC) was led by Alexis Green, who scored 20 points on five of nine shooting from three-point range, many of those coming in the final minute. Mercedes Johnson added 10 points as the Cajuns outrebounded FAU 45-41. However, they only shot 28 percent from the field (15-52).
