Charlotte @ FAU Game Thread - November 24, 2018

I’m going to reiterate my complaint that the defense took a step back this year, and they should have even been better than last year with their returners. Too many opposing team long, sustained drives and long third down conversions, keeping the ball away from a very good offense. I hope that gets fixed. I also hope the rules change to sit “injured” players. This is the second game I’ve been to this year that I saw a team do that, the first was Virginia Tech. While that is currently acceptable by the NCAA what it teaches our young men is just the opposite of what you would hope they would learn by playing on a football team, and I have little respect for coaches who allow it.

Out played and out coached after half time yet again. I hope Coach K clears out the co-ords out (all 3!) and starts over again cause we got WORSE through the year , not better! Nearly 300 yds. rushing in out house to Charlotte?????? 3 points in 2nd half AGAIN by the O????? Walk on city with the "specialists"?????

C'mon Dr. Kelly, up the coaches salary pool, we don't EVER need first year cords at this level again!!!

The Charlotte players took a dive on every play that last drive. Also, you could see the players on the sideline basically bragging about the fact they were taking dives. It's disgraceful. It ruined our momentum. Why would anyone want to have to see that garbage, and the total lack of class and respect for the game players have when they take dives.

The CLT coaches, trainers, and even refs were all laughing about it as it was going on – it was all so obvious, everyone in the stadium knew what was going on. I also don't blame them for doing it if they can get away with it. Not the reason we lost, but it was truly pathetic.

Gotta get out of CUSA, worst conference by far now, passed by MAC and even Sunbelt!

This team was obviously not coached up properly- you could see Lane being more active on the sidelines as the year progressed to take control since from what I was seeing there was very little control. These players - while they didn't play up to their standards by and large - were not put in positions to succeed like last year IMO, no real direction on either side of the ball. Last year we had a true p5 staff whereas this year we didn't, and it showed.

In 2 of the 3 areas we did not even have a FBS level co-ordinator, quite literally!!!

If no one has mentioned this yet. One area that has to be addressed in the off season is faking injuries to get a time-out. I Don't know how many times it happened last night in our game but it was ridiculous. Each team is given equal times-outs and they are used accordingly. Faking injuries gives a team unlimited times outs.

In the FIU - Marshall game last night, while Marshall was on defense, a Marshall substitution ran out and immediately went down with a cramp injury while he was running out there. After he was attended to he walked off without a limp.

It may have to be changed so that there is no coaching or substitution (except for the injured player) during the injury time-out.

Again, the difference was a missed field goal.

We were 16.5 point favorites.  It never should have come down to a field goal, so that can't be the difference in my eyes.

Well, we missed a field goal and lost by 3.

With regards to field goals…

If you look at games decided by 3 points or less this season:

11/24 - FAU lost 27-24 to Charlotte, missed a field goal
11/15 - FAU lost 41-38 to North Texas, missed a field goal
9/29 - FAU lost 25-24 to MTSU, missed no field goal

Meaning 2 of 3 situations where kicking "lost us the game."

Had we made those field goals we would have went to overtime and then we still would have had to score to win, and considering that we only scored 3 points total in the second half vs Charlotte, it's fair to say we might have STILL lost had it gone to overtime.

More optimistically if we had gone to overtime and won we would have two more wins there, so 7-5 instead of 5-7, but that's irrelevant now.

Wouldn't be surprise to see Kiffin go after a grad transfer at the kicker position.

We didn't miss a FG in the MTSU game, but we went for it on their 25 and didn't get it, and there are several other examples like that where we left the offense on the field.  I think you are right at Kiffin looking for a GT at kicker.
