That could be many years away.

I think either Shawn Elliot or Justin Fuentes will get the job. Although if he was recruiting coordinator and SC has dropped in recruiting, that might work against him.

Everyone, even Spurrier, has pointed that at the lack of his commitment to the program, and his age..I mean, as much as it hurts to say it, when a coach gets to a certain point, it starts to play its hand - see us for example.

He said they lost some key guys because of a quote that was consistently being used against him. They wouldn't come for just 2 years under him…couple it with hitting 70 and that is fair.

Elliot being the guy would mean a difference in both categories, although the name would be missing as well.

I personally believe when Howard lost his son it took a lot out of him. That seemed to be the beginning of the end for him as the head coach.

I also personally believe if Howard had the stadium on campus much earlier his last few years as coach would have been more successful. Schools like FIU were using our lack of a stadium as a way to win over our recruits. He told every recruiting class they would play in a new stadium and after a while the recruits stopped believing him and went elsewhere.

I still believe it cost more to play to an empty stadium than to buy out a coaches contract.

Furthermore, I'd like to see a performance based contract vs the current standard. I understand the chances would be extremely slim but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Go Owls.

I thought about that too but we can't unilaterally change to a commission-based, "pay for wins" model. If that ever did come to pass - for instance, if the NCAA were to make that the new standard - I'm not sure how that would affect the sport.

Coaches would obviously cry out, but Greater Fools always exist and the demand for HC gigs significantly outweighs the supply because of the earning potential… which would still exist in the commission model.

Won't happen but it's interesting to think about. We should at least be able to write some clause in the contract that if the HC loses to FIU, they got docked in pay. This whole "we're treating it like any other game" nonsense has got to go.

Anybody else not a fan of Parr losing his red shirt if it's not for extended playing time? If they play him they need to go all in as far as I'm concerned. A drive or two is not worth the losing the season. If they want to the start him the last 5 or 6 games go for it.

I would play Johnson,Driskel, Cameron,Marino and Juste before I would lose his red shirt. I look at it as a foolish move if they play him now.Yes, we are desperate. But stick to the long term plan for success. Anything else is like saying "we are throwing away our plan , to save our arses today".
