Of course, it could be worse:
We could be the Miami Hurricanes, who fired Golden after their worst loss in history, and on The First Team with Taylor Zarzour and Greg McElroy, they mostly talk about the facility problems, and how Miami is so far behind the rest of the country, without an indoor practice facility, and playing ball in Dolphins Stadium which just doesn't work for the U. So we have the U beat when it comes to facilities.

Also on The First Team this morning, Shannon Spake of ESPN was asked about the Miami Dolphins, and started to talk about FAU and the stadium and the great things we have going on here. Apparently she's a FAU alum. So there's that…

DANNY KANELL ALSO SPOKE AT GREAT LENGTH ABOUT HOW THE U NEEDS A STADIUM LIKE FAU HAS, MAYBE MORE LIKE 40k, BUT HE WAS PRACTICALLY GUSHING ABOUT FAU STADIUM!

And this is why things can only go up from here. Seems like a lot of people who cover college football are implying that we're better set for the future than Miami. The problem with The U is that the university administration doesn't care much for athletics. They liked Golden a lot for keeping the graduation rates up and the program squeaky clean. Most fans of Miami, myself included, have no affiliation with the university and follow the team like it's a pro team. That's where I think we can capitalize. When and if the indoor athletic center is ever built, we'll have the best and most complete football facilities in South FL and among the G5 state schools. We just need to start winning!!

Agreed. As an alum of both schools (I am technically a "law owl" as well lol), it was plain as day when I was there that people have huge misconceptions about the school and the program. People are shocked when I tell them UM is basically a small private school (think of a Wake Forest or Virginia competing in the ACC) with no on campus facility. Coupled with a fickle south Florida fanbase and a student population that really isn't as football savvy as you might think, it really doesn't surprise me to see how they have fallen off in this day and age.

I have been trying to figure out what is the deal with Partridge the last few weeks, and I can basically boil it down to we hired a positions coach who is too young.

He doesn't have many tenured football friends that he can drag with him places and as if it isn't hard enough to get assistant coaches down here anyway because none of them can afford to live in Boca, we have no creativity in the staff.

They work for teams like ours in our Conference. We are in this weird spot of having no fans and money and our team still probably has more talent than any other team in the Conference by association to south Florida. Do you watch WKU play and think "Wow I don't know what they are putting in the water in Bowling Green, but I don't know how we are ever going to do that?"

WKU's 2nd, 3rd, and 4th leading receivers along with Brandon Doughty and their best tackling DB and 2nd best coverage DB are all from FL.

This team beat Vandy and hung with LSU while holding Leonard Fournette to 82 yards on like 23 carries in the first half despite their defense being 6 spots lower than us in total defense.

So why not run an air raid or a triple option or some Gus Malzahn wing T?

Anything over slowly accruing 550 yards of offense with long scoring drives that when we get behind make it hard to salvage anything because we are probably losing the turnover margin.

I love dropkicks and fat guy touchdowns.

Lack of creativity is what is the down fall to teams like ours.

Pelini didn't have it and Charlie doesn't.

Pelini's defense was a lot better though at least we had that.

I love dropkicks and fat guy touchdowns.

I really couldn't agree more. I think we'd attract talent that fits an air raid offense much more than a pro-style offense. Pro-style fits Bama, but that's because 3-star recruits are nothing to them. They can recruit the best players at almost every position. I really like the idea of Kendall Briles as HC. He'll know how to run a program because of his dad, and look at the offense he runs…

Additionally, C-USA teams probably couldn't keep up with that from a defensive perspective. Heck, Big12 teams can't stop it. I think one problem though is that Chun will probably only hire coaches with B1G ties.

I don't really have an issue to what kind of offense it is, but you have to make adjustments if your defense isn't getting it done. I love rushing offenses. I watch any team that runs a modern triple option every week as well as most Auburn games. But Marshall doesn't run a one dimensional offense but they know that the rift between Power 5 and Group of 5 can be closed by creativity and that's why they and WKU put it to teams that "should beat them"

Jacksonville State didn't almost beat Auburn because of a fluke game. The team runs a quick strike offense that puts up crazy points and the QB can run if it breaks down.

If an FCS team from Alabama can run something like that our players can do the same.

I love dropkicks and fat guy touchdowns.

Is there anyone old enough here to remember when the NO Saints fans wore those to the games and called themselves Ain'ts fans?

I think they sell those paper bags at Ford Field in Detroit…

Teambeer is the most knowledgeable FAU sports fan I know, way smarter than me.

I would love for us to be one of the most creative teams in college football. We should be running more trick plays. It generates points and interest in the program as people wonder, "what are they going to do next?"

Because you're right that we can't beat many teams with our size. We don't have BCS-sized offensive linemen. We need to be quick and strike fast. I want to be known as a team that regularly puts up 550+ yards of offense.

But I surmise that being a football coach is more about logistics and statistics than creativity.

I also think that our priority is academics. When Partridge is graded on his performance as a coach, Chun may be happy with him overall because of the GPA/graduation rate while the fanbase dwindles to under 1000 butts in seats. And while I understand that some of these kids might not academically qualify for college without football, and furthermore that the degree is important because only a handful will go on to play in the NFL, the point of this is still to win games. Can't get into FAU? Go to CC and transfer in two uears. Can't afford college? Banks will give loans to anyone because they make RIDICULOUS money off them.

Really what should happen is that being an athlete and being a student should be separate things. They could perform better if it was simplified. For instance, if you were only here for football, you wouldn't miss practice because of class. You would only study the opposing team film during the week leading to better games. And you could get paid because technically it's a job and you're an arm of the university like food services, campus security, etc.

And at the end you decide you don't make it for the NFL, you go back to college. It's almost never too late to get your degree (getting one at 60 for employment purposes is pushing it)
