Not sure where the above figure is from, but here is the per credit figure posted on FIU's "Current Cost for 2013-2014" informational site:

Undergraduate   In-State   Out-of-State
Athletic Fees      $20.00      $20.00

The link you cited shows the total per credit fee to $203.59.  That includes the $8.49 per hour fee for athletics.  The $20 charge is a flat fee on top of any cumulative per hour fees.  It is not clear when you look at it, but that is the way it is calculated.

Look here for the detail break down on FIU tuition and fees.

Regular Fees - Continuing - Cashiers - University Financial Services - Finance and Accounting - FIU

I take it back.  The FIU total per hour fees charged for Athletics is $16.01.  That comes to $192.12 for a 12 hour semester plus a $20 flat fee on top of it all.

Athletic fee                  $8.49
Title IX fee                   $  .30
Athletic Football fee     $ 7.31

This is all included in the $203.59 per hour charge that your schedule showed for FIU.

Ok, so $17.27 vs $16.01 with 52K students is still double what we are getting at 25K?

Yeah, you're right.  I was surprised to look closer and see the additional "Football" fee of $8.49 fir FIU.   The main point I was going to make is that if later on in this process we are going to be casting about looking for funding sources, we have basically tapped out the students.  With the exception of Univ of West Fl, we have the highest athletic fees in the university system.

UCF went from 30k to 60k students in a span of like 10 years…that's one way to get some more funding!  :Big-Grin:

We need to rush more students, the way to rush more students is to play on TV, win football games/bowl games, show palm trees, and beaches in December.

Until we can make our athletic budget in ticket revenue, out student fees are not going to change.

According to a BOT presentation given on 6/4/13, the 2013-2014 Athletics Local Budget is $25,655,949. The Revenue Budget showed:

Under Ticket Sales/Other Event-Tickets:
- Stadium ticket sales for Athletic Operations was 207,500
- Stadium Operations was 600,000

Game Guarantees were 2M
Student Fees gave us 10.7M
Development/Corporate Sales 1.5M
Parking 575k
Institutional Support 1.3M
University Support 3.1M
Foundation Scholarship Funds 3.2M

and a bunch of other miscellaneous stuff like Licensing, Catering, etc.

I'm not sure the difference between Athletic Operations (all sports?) vs Stadium Operations (football?), but either way, it's generating less than $1M per year and our budget is inching up towards $26M. In fact, parking makes more than half of what we make on tickets… something to consider for those who suggested FAU offer free parking.

I also don't know the difference between Institutional and University Support, but 3.2M from the Foundation towards scholarships is nothing to sneeze at. They literally make these sports possible.

And finally, to the point of this discussion, our biggest chunk is 10.7M from student fees.

That's why it's high. And will be high for… years. Even if we could get near sellouts of the stadium for 5-6 home games each season, Athletics could choose to take that surplus revenue and lower student fees OR they could take it and improve the facilities/programs offered to its athletes.

Not hard to figure out which one is more likely.
