Commuter universities with highest % freshman commuters

I was looking to see where the larger commuter colleges were located and this article came up.

FIU ranks #3 in the nation with 77% of their freshmen commuting.

10 Universities With the Most Freshman Commuters - US News and World Report

FAU isn't on this list but if you notice most large commuter campuses are in large cities. That's why I think FAU/Boca Raton transforming to a traditional campus was the right move.

Re: Commuter universities with highest % freshman commuters

That's always an interesting measurement… for instance:

According to UF's Common Data Set page for 2011,

"77% of undergraduates live off campus or commute."

Most students live in off-campus rentals and take the RTS bus to campus because there is no parking for students. A number of UF student apartments are close, about 5 minutes from campus, but other ones are easily 15-20 minutes away… the same distance I drove every day to get to FAU.

So, really, what's the big difference?

i just think the difference is the amount of housing that is directly around campus. that needs to improve.

when they take 10 years to build an off ramp, you could have built 5000 units to the east of campus in a year or two. people always went west because it was cheaper, even the people who weren't the stereotypical 'commuter' i know i did and i'm from ny
