They are not going to change their name, either are we, but they are apparently changing to a darker blue, dropping the golden from panthers and changing their athletic logo to that thundercats-esque thing.

In fairness, pretty much all of the FIU people on the board are against a school name change, and many are against the new logo.  Alot support dropping golden and making the blue darker.

They NEED to change their helmets because they look like bowling balls. They should copy Michigan's helmet design, only use silver instead of yellow.

Michigans helmet is pretty unique, it would be obvious that they were copying which would be sort of cheesy.  They need to come up with something original.

As far as FAU goes, I still wish we had something with our mascot or uniform that signified that we are right off the beach…not to bring up an old issue, but they should still work in "The Blue Wave" like Alabama works in the Crimson Tide but their mascot is an Elephant.  Auburn has two logos as well…I think they are the Tigers and the War Eagles…point being that their is no reason we cant have two different mascots as well.

I think their Thundercat logo might look good in color.

As much as I am not supposed to, I like FIU.. they are like us except they had a fight with Miami and didn't have an effective coach.  They really have nowhere to go but up, and with Cristobal I think they have the opportunity to turn heads in the future.

They play South Florida next year, I hope they give them a game (don't want them necessarily beating them just because then they might hold that over OUR heads…. but then again they aren't self-righteous UCF fans)

I have to agree that I like underdogs as well and therefore I have somewhat of a liking for FIU. They have had it really bad as of late. They need to get some breaks. I root for them except when they play FAU. Heck, I even rooted for UCF against Texas. That will never happen again after I now see how cocky UCF fans are after their little visit to this board.

Yeah, tell me about it! They'll get no more support from me. Their fans employ some interesting double standards… for instance:

They're supposedly a better team than us because they were up on  Memphis 42-0 at the half
while we only won 44-27

Meanwhile we're supposedly not a better team because we only lost to USF by 12 points in the very end
while they lost by ~52 points

You can't do that. If you're better than us because of how you played Memphis then we're better than you because of how we played USF.

Or you can realize that performances against common teams don't tell you as much as you'd like about the team itself… case in point: we beat Troy but Troy put up more points on UF than we did.

Seriously, can the few of you that are so put off by the smack from UCF please just LET IT GO.  It is getting old and I am personally tired of reading about it in threads that have NOTHING to do with it (and I am sure that many others are too).  I avoid all of that crap up here and if you guys keep bringing the same tired "they suck, we are better" banter to places it doesn't belong it makes this board a whole lot less fun to read and harder keep up on things that are relevant and informative. This now rates above the stupid what color to wear drivel. Grow some thicker skin if you must, and just let some of this stuff die from a lack of interest instead of encouraging and sometime inciting their vile responses.

Although i disagree withy our assesment of the color debate (and hold it is a relevant point to the growth of the branding unity of FAU and its fan base), i share your thoughts towards this constant "ucf smack infiltration"…

On behalf of the FIU fans, I can say that no one supports any type of logo change, and that "thundercat-looking" logo will not be our logo. There's been no information by athletics, administration or news that there is going to be any type of change. I can say that although, most if not all agree that they like "Golden Panthers", some would be willing to drop the "Golden", although personally I like being the Golden Panthers. In terms of color, Blue and Gold will remain our colors unless Pete Garcia has gone mad. The way I see it is that they might change the exact shade of blue and gold to really standardize it, as the university doesn't always use the same tones of blue and gold. That I can definitely see happening and would be happy to see some standardization.
