I went by this morning and took a look.

It's great to see an FAU store.

Congratulations again and good luck.  I for one know that is where I will be buying all my FAU swag.

GO OWLS!

+ 1! Plus any chance I get to stick it to the bookstore I'm on board. Sorry to the admins who are reading this but a little competition never hurt anyone. B & N has a monopoly and not allowing Its Owl Time to sell on campus just means they're afraid. Not only does Mark AKA Its Owl Time have better stuff and more options, the stuff B & N sells is crap, he also hasoutstanding customer service! B & N couldn't give 2 hoots about us

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

I agree with everything you said except "not allowing Its Owl Time to sell on campus".  Why would they?  They pay alot of money to be the exclusive vendor on campus.  If Mark had the same deal…I certainly hope it wouldn't allow anyone else to sell their goods on campus as well.  Mark does give good service, and I vote with my wallet…I will be buying all future FAU gear from his store.

Because that's the definition of a monopoly which is illegal in this country. That would be like Verizon buying AT & T and T-Mobile and now you have no choice if you want use a cell phone. You have to use Verizon because they're the only cell phone provider and knowing this they're going to start charging $200 a month for a basic plan

You can buy all you want on campus from other vendors…as long as you do it online…

Re: It's Owl Time! The Store -- is coming to Boca Raton

The exclusive rights of the bookstore on campus doesn't bother me that much.  I have no control over it so I just keep doing what I am doing.  Along the way, I am trying to be the best corporate citizen for FAU that I can be.  Maybe one day that gets rewarded by a change in the contract.

What does irk me about the exclusivity is that the "exclusive rights" should require you to be at more sporting events generating royalties for FAU.  That's where I think FAU gets the short end of the deal.  You get to be exclusive but there is nothing in the contract to make sure you are actually open up for baseball games and some of the other sporting events.  They don't do it because there is not a ton of business to be had…but that should be in the contract.  Heck, I can remember an FIU/FAU basketball game; it was the biggest game of the year, the place was packed…and they didn't open the store in the Burrow.  That irks me.  Maybe that has changed, I don't know.

I can understand why they don't want to go to some events, but if you don't want it, you should be forced to sub that out to someone who is willing to do it!

Chartwells used to be exclusive but they started letting others in and they take a cut of the sales.

Other than that, I think the bookstore has improved greatly over the last couple of years.  I hope I have had something to do with that.  I know I have been in the bookstore to check out stuff and have seen some good things and have walked out saying: I need to step up my game.  Competition is good.  They are huge, I am tiny.  They could crush me like a bug if they really wanted to do so.  I have stopped in and talked to them before and said:  Let's work together where it makes business sense.

Businesses tend to want to be enemies instead of friends when they are in similar businesses.  I tend to want to have more friends than enemies.  I need all the friends I can get  ;)

Exclusivity is not monopoly…we have other choices, online, a soon to be open store on 20th.  Hopefully as Mark said being a good FAU corporate citizen will be rewarded with a service contract for him in the future (hopefully an exclusive contract to him).  The school and the athletic contract needs to be split apart.  For the team store not to be opened or closed prior to everyone leaving the arena or stadium is bad business.  You get someone (like Mark) who wants to give good service, the customers will go there everytime.  I will NEVER buy any FAU gear on campus again now that Mark is filling a long over due need of the FAU community.  I believe in supporting the locally own, family business over the corporate giants any day (I may be biased though).

Realistically, I would never expect to get exclusivity on campus.  I don't think that would make sense for FAU.  You have to have a Bookstore and a bookstore will sell merchandise.  Then again, as quickly as technology changes, maybe the "bookstore" becomes obsolete down the road.

The best I would hope for as an alumnus, is that the exclusivity ends on campus…or the contract is enforced by requiring events to be covered.

For the record, this administration (athletic's and the President's Office) has been very supportive of what I am trying to do.  I couldn't ask for a better group to partner with.  They get it.
